Galatians 5:16–24 ESV
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Ho Hum

Work
King Solomon attempted to find meaning in all kinds of things: Work, Wisdom, Material things, pleasure, etc . .
He concluded: We should recognize God is our creator and obey him.
We are to do it with Joy in this life:
Ecclesiastes 3:9–15 ESV
9 What gain has the worker from his toil? 10 I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. 12 I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; 13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man. 14 I perceived that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. God has done it, so that people fear before him. 15 That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.
So What?
As Christians we are to avoid acting like the world. We are to be a people of joy, because we have hope.
Message:
We do often look like the world: lack joy and depressed, overwhelmed with work, etc . . .
We can come to Jesus and bring all of this stuff to him, and in faith, become a joyous Christian again
Psalm 16:8–11 ESV
8 I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Our hope and joy is in our salvation and the benefits to come.
When we put things in a proper perspective we cannot help but have Joy.
When God is before us, our salvation, our victory, our future blessings, we can truly have joy, even in these trying times.
