Messenger The March/April 2020 A Bi-Monthly Publication of The Moriah Baptist Association The Moriah Baptist Association Welcomes Dr. Joe Youngblood We at Moriah are so very happy to extend a warm and hearty welcome to “Joe” (this is the way he wants to be addressed) to our Moriah Association. Joe will be providing transitional leadership to our Association as we prepare to call a permanent director of missions. One of his visions is to lead our Association through the RESTORE process which will help us to define and establish a clear vision for Moriah. Just a few of his goals are to examine and refine Moriah’s Vision Statement, Mission Statement, and Core Value Statement and develop strategies that will help us to reach these goals. Joe’s contact information is as follows: Moriah…………...803-283-8409 Cell:………………803-215-3841 Please remember to pray for Joe as he leads our Association. From the beginning, God opened a door for the camp to take place in Lancaster in two different places the same week. We have been able to share the Gospel with many kids and families and disciple and build countless relationships over the years. High school and middle school students as well as college students and adults get the privilege of investing in elementary age kids the entire week. We are also able to invest in each other. In 2020 Victory Sports will do three camps in Lancaster County. Lancaster, Buford, and Kershaw. Please be in prayer for this ministry as we seek to Glorify God in all that is said and done. We would like to take this opportunity to thank The Baptist Foundation of South Carolina for their generous grant of $2,000 to be used for our Kershaw Area Victory Sports Camp. Thank you for being our partner. Randy Mellichamp, Director The Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Lancaster County has seen amazing strides over the past school year. Our partnership with the Moriah Baptist Association has produced amazing relationships with schools, administrators, coaches and students. This past semester, our huddles have grown at each campus. Currently, Andrew Jackson High and middle schools are meeting each week at 35-40 every week. Indian Land High and Middle have strong huddles at 35-40 attendees as well. Lancaster High has been averaging 45 students per huddle with South Middle beginning this year at 25-30 students involved. Buford Middle has been one of our strongest huddles in the Charlotte Metro Region averaging 160 per huddle. Buford High has averaged 55-60 students per week. The amazing hidden fact on these huddles is that each of them are led and organized by students in the schools. They are sponsored by a Christian teacher (or several teachers) who want to see the Gospel spread in the schools. They are supported by administrations at each school that want to see the ministry of FCA grow because they know what the Gospel gives students and how that can help their schools. The gifts of the Moriah Association provide Bibles for coaches and students, resources to train student leadership, and support for the individual schools as they minister. Your support allows this ministry to flourish. Lancaster County is led by some of the most amazing staff and volunteers in the North and South Carolina Region. Many of those staff and volunteers are people from this association of churches. This partnership is more than just financial support as people, staff, and churches have stepped in to make sure the Gospel is spread throughout our schools. Thank you, Moriah Baptists, for your prayers, involvement, and sponsorship. God is working in the schools of Lancaster County. We still have much more work to do but we are thankful for Christians who would rather get in the game than try to coach from the stands. We love and appreciate you!
