HOOK

Previously in Agape we learned that:
I MUST BELIEVE WHO JESUS CLAIMS HIM TO BE
I WILL SHARE THE GRACE OF GOD TO OTHERS
These are connected to the passage that we will scrutinize today
As Jesus continued to teach— they came to the point when there was a dispute over whose children Jesus’s opponents are
This passage that we are about to study is very timely for today we are celebrating MEMORIAL DAY
Some facts about Memorial day:
Commemorated every year on the last Monday of May
It is a Federal Holiday
Originally known as DECORATION DAY— meant to honor the Union and the Confederate soldiers who died during the American Civil War
A solemn day for everyone who has died serving in the American Armed Forces
It became a Federal holiday in 1971
We honor our fallen Heroes by displaying the US flag
Freedom is not free—there is a huge cost— many of those who “rose to the occasion” shed blood for freedo
In the passage today we will see a different kind of freedom that was also paid for by the blood of Jesus
Let’s dig in! Open your Bible to John 8:31-38— once you got there type, Amen!
While you flip those pages in the Bible— things that you need to remember when studying the Word of God
CHARACTER, COMMAND, CONVICTION, PROMISES, EXAMPLES, CHALLENGES AND ENCOURAGEMENT

BOOK

John 8:31–38 NIV
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” 34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.”
And also, asking the right questions helps a lot too— 5 W’s + 1H
