Hand out of that celebration if you will is a time of reflection as we are reminded a remembering the Pentecost there was a purpose for it and a need for it and it was to pour out God's spirit upon All Flesh. So we just praise the Lord for that that he is faithful in this time and in these days. I saw this morning.

You know what we sleep. We reflected on the things of this this week in our in our nation things that have happened and think and so I I've got a message called Pentecostal to be or not to be. And what it means maybe that means that I'm not going to tell you what it means, but I'm going to challenge each one of us ask ourselves what it means to be or not to be a Pentecostal what it means as it goes. I've got several scriptures that we will be reading today and How would I share a little bit with them and but I feel that the greater knead is also for each one of us to reflect upon the scriptures. We know that.

When the book of Acts was written in the in the spirit Fallon when Pentecost came this scripture out of Joel was reflected, but I want hopefully we will get additional understanding of what that is today as we look at.

Pentecost and what that means applied to in some ways and short-form innocence, so I want to read out of Joel chapter 3 Verses 28 through 32 probably more familiar with 28 and 29, but I don't want to stop there and want to read a little further today and what that is and so in Joel chapter 3 verses 28 through 30 to the word tells us and it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out my spirit upon All Flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy your old men shall dream dreams. Your young men shall see visions and also upon the servants and upon the handmaid's in those days will I pour out my spirit?

And I will Shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth blood and fire and pillars of smoke the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the Great and the terrible day of the Lord come. And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered for in Mount Zion. And in Jerusalem shall be Deliverance as the Lord has said and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call. Osprey father as we come today. We thank you. Again Lord that we can observe it. We can celebrate that we can reflect upon Pentecost. Lord Evers reasons that that this is was done and Lord. We thank you Lord father that not only for that time when it was poured out upon those disciples in that day Lord God, but also Lord father that it was a work that it was a celebration of that. The Israelites did for centuries awaiting the coming of Jesus the coming of the holy spirit being poured out. The problem we pray that you would help us. Oh God today Lord to reflect upon what it means to be Pentecostal. Father I pray that you would use this vessel to that glory and I honor in the name of Jesus Amen. Amen, thank you Lord. What kind of cost? The people's dictionary of the Bible tells us a little bit about that reference is Acts chapter 2 verse 1. It says it's from a Greek word signifying 50th the name of the New Testament the name in the New Testament for the Second Great Festival of the Jews called by them the Feast of Weeks or the day of firstfruits. It was celebrated on the 50th day. Hence the name after Passover after the Passover Reckoning from the second day of the Passover the 16th of Nisan Leviticus, 23 11 and 15 to tomorrow after the end of the 7th week in Leviticus, 23:15 16 Deuteronomy, 6:10. It was originally a simple Thanksgiving for the Harvest which in Palestine fell in the weeks between the Passover and the Pentecost. So as we once again, look at these things are we see the Festival was kept for one day and the principal right consisted of the offering of tullos made with of the finest flower of the last crop sweet. Is some branches of the Christian Church Pentecost is celebrated seven weeks after Easter and commemoration of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the disciples as the birthday of the Christian Church references see Acts chapter 2 verses 1 through 14. So as we think about that today as we look at that, I want to read some of the scriptures that have been pointed out. I told you I was going to read Service scriptures. We kind of need to know I think a little bit about of the background of Pentecost, you know, sometimes we we know the Acts chapter 2 and what took place in our church, you know, sometimes very well, but do we do we know that background? I want to read some of these scriptures Leviticus chapter 23 verses 15 through 22 to you from the more tomorrow after the Sabbath from the day that you brought the Sheaf of the wave offering seven Sabbath shall be complete even until the morrow after the seventh seventh show you number 50 days and you shall offer a new meat offering unto the Lord. You shall bring out of your habitation to waive Lowe's of 2/10 Deals. They shall be of fine flour. They shall be bacon with Levin. They are the first fruits unto the Lord. And you shall offer with the bread seven Lambs without blemish of the first year and one young Bullock and two Rams. They shall be for a burnt offering to the Lord with their meat offering and their drink offerings. Even an offering made by fire of sweet savour unto the Lord. Then you shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of Peace offerings and the pre-show wave them with the bread of the first fruits for a wave offering before the Lord with the two Lambs. They shall be holy to the Lord for the priest. And you shall Proclaim on the south same day that it may be a holy convocation unto you you shall do no servile work there in it shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your Generations. And when you reap the Harvest of your land, you shall not make clean riddance of the corners of the field went out shower when the I repurposed neither shout. I'll gather any gleanings of the Harvest Thou shalt leave them until the poor and to the stranger. I am the Lord your God. Also a part. We read also referenced Acts chapter 2, excuse me.

Did I put wrong or did I put something wrong?

the Armory that because I don't have it there but

Acts chapter 2 I don't have that on the screen. I apologize for that but Acts chapter 2 verses 1 through 13 tells us and when the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all with one Accord in one place and suddenly there came a sound from Heaven as of a rushing Mighty Wind and it filled all the house so they were sitting and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire and it set up on each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost to begin to speak with other tongues as the spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews devout man out of every nation under heaven now when this was noised abroad the multitude came together and were confounded because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed in Marvel saying one to another behold are not all these would speak galileans and how here we every man in our own tongue wherein we were born parthians and medes and elamites and the Dwellers of Mesopotamia and in Judea and Cappadocia in pontus and Asia and forget that filia in Egypt and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene and strangers of Roman Jews and proselytes. Creeks and Arabians. We do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God and they were all amazed and we're in doubt saying one to another what mean if this and others mocking said these men are full of new wine.

I think we're a lot more familiar with the first verses of.

That we read out of Acts. Then we were with the end of Out of Joel then we are with the verses that we ran out of Leviticus. Once again, it would kind of review a little bit Pentecost means 50th. It's a Christian Festival celebrating The Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Disciples of Jesus after his Ascension held on the seventh Sunday after Easter of the day on which Pentecost is hell. This is second of the Jewish Festival of Sheba or the first fruits in gathering of the celebration of the Harvest Pentecostal and it has a meaning of a Pentecostal as relating. It relates to Pentecostal relating to or denoting. Any of a number of Christian movements are individuals emphasizing baptism in the Holy Spirit evidence by speaking in tongues prophesying healing and exorcism as a noun pain. Is a member of a Pentecostal movement? So as we think about these things this week reflect on some of these things.

one of the things back in Leviticus that we read about was toward the end of that scripture that

like it was that.

what kind of makes me begin to think about Pentecost and it was in that same set of scriptures that we're looking at that that we are to

Essence share We're to share what we have been given of God. We are to share that we're not to withhold things. So, you know, if the spirit is poured out upon us, if we if we are blessed then there's things that we are to do for others. We're not to hoard things were not the whole lot of things. We're not to to keep things and not sharing in a sense and I think that's a noise that says there's verse 22 when you reap the Harvest of your land you shall not make clean riddance of the corners that I filled, you know, I think you know if we're not careful.

What times are hard or times are not what we would like or whatever might be we can get forgetful about caring about others or meeting others needs and so what so what are those gleanings? What are those things that we do? You know what it could be, you know. I want to call him a little bit differently in a sense, but it still living by the spirit wear begin to live out of selfishness or selfish desires instead of living in the spirit that they were living in the fruit of the spirit gods pouring out his Spirit upon us and once you telling us to do and are we willing to the follow-through are we going to be willing to not take everything we've got whored it hang on to it or we going to be willing to share some of that with others. You know, I said it once again, we don't we don't Harvest all those things, you know, we don't do that in the sense and because we're not an Agricultural Society anymore as a people. What do we do with with our you know, what we do is What We Gather we we get paid we get we have our mother funds that come in. What are we doing? Are we taking every bit of that and spending it on ourselves? Are we using it for a sales? Are we sharing with others? Are we doing that? Are we being willing to be you know, if we wanted are we being generous and what we're doing and how we're doing it. So what is it that we are looking for? What is it that that we want to be in Christ? And once again, the question becomes to you and I what does being Pentecostal mean to you? And you're going to see this come up kind of on and off throughout as we talk this morning as we share because you know, it's it's something that That is it relates to us that we need to be aware of of what it is what it is to us what it means to me what it means to you to be a Pentecostal and industry. It's more than just the outpouring of the spirit of God on the day of Pentecost and just in our living but it's pouring out in us and that we would be a blessing to others around us in different ways and different forms to ones as we read some of the meanings that we talked about two ones who most likely are outside the realm of the body of Christ being a Pentecostal means emphasizing baptism in the Holy Spirit evidence by speaking. It is your prophecy or healing or exorcism, you know, they're looking for that, you know, those kinds of things that are Signs if you will, that's what you know many times people come and you know how they want. They wanted to see the size Jesus. I see challenge some of the people that call him. What are you looking for? What are you seeking after? You know how many times you know, they were looking because this is what they wanted. They weren't looking to walk with the Lord. They weren't looking to follow the lord. They were looking for some evidence of these kinds of things that signs and wonders that happened in their lives. And so I think a lot of times when we looking people outside the realm of Christ, that's kind of what they're looking at. It was a definition that was pro fast as I read that that I just pulled off the internet if you will you search what is a Pentecostal and these kinds of things pop up and and so that's what you know, sometimes that's what they they think we are at solver about and to be honest with you. That's that's that's a shame if that's all we are looking at. If that's all they are seeing and that's all we're doing. I think we need to begin to ask ourselves very seriously. What does being a Pentecostal mean to you? And so we we are you no need to be you know, again mindful that and then see what that means to us. I believe in the baptism of the Holy Ghost praise God, I believe it's speaking in tongues. I believe in the moving of the spirit of God on the hearts and lives of God's people and I and I trust him and he's doing that and it's pouring at out and continuing to do that. Even in this day. We know that in the scriptures that when the apostles lay hands on the people that the Holy Ghost would come upon them and the people would speak in other tongues and prophesy and glorify God the glory of demonstrations of the power of God. We we talked about some of those and Sunday school this morning praise the Lord that you know, God is still working in the earth. Amen. The God is still moving and demonstrate. There's power in the earth until where we can praise him for that. Once again. What's that being a Pentecostal mean to you and we fall back into the some of those things that Where we begin to think that that's all it is. It's those things that that other poured out that you know that that everybody gets excited about it and goes on and you know, We also realize and know that there were people in the early church. You thought that tongues and the laying on of hands was a way to bring out the most excellent demonstration of the Holy Ghost and is recorded that Simon a converted sorcerer was willing to pay the apostles for the gift of laying on of hands that he might have the power. That's where we struggle. That's where we begin to see that you know why I want this I want that I want I want to do that like that I want and you know, is that what it means to us as Pentecostals and Acts chapter 8 verse 9 and 10 the word says but there was a certain man called Simon which Before Time in the same city you sorcery and bewitch the people of Samaria giving out that himself was some great one. To whom they all gave he'd from the least to the greatest sang. This man is the great power of God dentist a shared with us. Some is Sunday school this morning about this story about Philip ministering there in Samaria. And but this was one of those that come to believe and so as we as we see that it is we look at that. We know that you know, he said he was a believer in verse 18 we skip down a little bit and says it was Simon saw that through the laying on of the Apostles hands. The whole universe was giving you offered them money saying give me also this power that on whomsoever I lay as he may receive the Holy Ghost. There's where the struggle began Pride self desire selfishness once again, but Peter said it to him by money perish with thee because thou has thought that they give God may be purchased with money that has neither part nor lot in this matter for the Heart By Heart is not right in the sight of God repent therefore of this by wickedness and pray God it perhaps the thought of my heart may be forgiven thee for I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity. Then answered Simon and said pray the Lord for me that none of these things which you have spoken come upon me. So no doubt, there are still those in the church today that have this process of thought and that would desire to use to their own gain and vainglory.

These things that that he Simon saw that he wanted to use that he wanted it and sometimes that makes people wear your over cautious of those who walk in the spirit live by the spirit of God. It's so sings that we need to be mindful of we need to be careful up and what our desires of is seeking after the Holy Ghost. It is a good thing, but when it's used in God's way when it's used as God ordained it but when we use it for our own selfish gains will use of her own selfish thoughts for on vainglory then it's it's It's abused and it's not used properly. And and so we just call upon God to help us to be what he wants us to be to do what he wants us to do as we would seek after him. Paul realize there were issues in the church in his days of ministry and even within the body of Christ to which he minister or two. He brought that message to the church and relevancy to to them and to them then and is still applicable today. It's still applicable today that Paul realize you know, what this this Pentecostal experience. Everybody wants to get excited about her, but I want to get hyped up about and what happens is they begin to get prideful it begin to get selfish about that with their own desires with their own things that they're wanting to do. And so, you know, he had to address that when he wrote to the The Corinthian Church, and I want to read 1st Corinthians chapter 13. And so it's one of those things as we begin to get there. Hopefully we open ourselves to begin to think about what it is to be a Pentecostal though. I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity. I am become a sounding brass or tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of Prophecy and understand all Mysteries and all knowledge and though, I have all Faith so that I could remove mountains and have not charity. I am nothing and no I restore all my goods to feed the poor and though I give my body to be burned and have not charity. It profits me. Nothing charity suffereth long and is kind charity envieth not charity vaunteth not itself. It is not puffed up. Does not behave itself unseemly. Seeketh not her own is not easily provoked think of no evil rejoice it not in iniquity, but rejoice in the truth beareth all things believe all things hopes all things endureth all things charity never faileth. The weather there be prophecies they shall fail whether there be tongues. They shall facies whether they be there be knowledge itself an easier way for we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when that which is perfect is come then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child. I understood as a child. I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things for now. We see through a glass Darkly but then face to face now I know in part but then shall I know even as also I am known. Now abideth faith hope and charity these three, but the greatest of these is charity.

Cuz we think about that. And Pentecost and we begin to wonder where we are. You know, we could we can do all these great things we can we can prophesy we can understand Mysteries. We can have knowledge we can we can move mountains. But Paul says if if we don't do that with Cherokee in love, it's it's it's false. It's fake if I if I speak in tongues and but I have not love to do it what value is it? What value is it? In in the in the body of Christ? What value is in our homes and our household if we cannot love and we cannot reach out to those around us with God's spirit with God's love with God's mercy with God's grace. That's what when the spirit comes on us with that should just flow from That should that should flow from us. And so, you know when we when we begin to stop and read these things we need to ask ourselves.

Am I walking in this am I following this is this what the spirit is teaching me. Am I receiving this from the spirit of got a my Desiring this from the spirit of God, you know, we we need to be able to share we needed. Once again, we need to be able to prophesy. We need to be able to understand we need to have knowledge. We need to have faith. We need to be able to speak in tongues. We need to pray in tongues. We need to to seek out but we need love and Paul said the greatest of these is love that we would love our neighbor that we would love our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. We've also Betty just this quarter in out of out of Galatians, but Paul wrote also for the galatian church. Esther some issues that were found there to the point that they were falling back into the ways of the laws of Moses instead of the law of Christ. He reminded them of what and where Jesus at sacrifice for them. It was not to be in selfish ways but in ways of love and caring for others

I'm going to read once again out of Galatians chapter 5 we're going to read through some scriptures and verses 13 and 14. The word says for brother and you have been called to Liberty. Only use not Liberty for an occasion to the flesh but by love serve one another for all the laws fulfilled in 1 Word even in this that thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. We have Liberty in God, we have Liberty in the spirit. We have Liberty that's been given to us by the spirits outpouring unto us, but if we cannot love our brother if we cannot love our neighbor, then what's Pentecost mean to us a my fulfilling what God poured out in me if I cannot love my neighbor, you know what again? We begin to look at some of the things that's happened at this past week and it's happening in our commute today. Then how do we feel? How do we react? What what are we thinking and I'm not and I don't want us to but I want us to think I want us to reflect. How do we treat other people brother Dennis shared with us this morning? I you know at the Samaritans in the Jews did the Samaritans the Jews and the Gentiles they were all group we get into somebody that doesn't look like us are we getting somebody to think like us or we get to that and all of a sudden, you know, we can't we can't have fellowship with them.

I remember a time when a sister is shared that you know what she was talking to someone and then we were we were going to be leaving the church and and going to another place that we felt God was moving Austin and in that she was told it while we can no longer be friends because we're not going to be fellowshipping together in that and what a shame when we cannot fellowship with our own Brothers and Sisters in Christ. And to think about them, you know, whether they look like us or whether they're different from us or whether they don't they don't act like us we don't do like us or they need to look and see what God is working in us, you know, we we too many times. We don't live by the spirit, but Paul said it's summed up in one word is fulfilled in one word that we love your neighbor as yourself.

That's what the spirit Jesus died for us for this he give us the spirit so that we can learn to love others in so, you know. That's what we are called to do. That's what he's called us to be as what he wants us to be. Verse 15 through 18 says but if you bite and devour one another take heed that you and that you be not consumed one of another this I say then walk in the spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh for the flashlights just against the spirit the spirit against the Flesh and these are contrary the one to the other so that you cannot do the things that you would but if you be led of the spirit you are not under the law. Excuse me. We need to be mindful. We need to remember that we are led by the spirit. God gave us his spirit. Are we still are we? Are we being led by the spirit? Are we do we desire to be led by the spirit? Where we where we going to do our own thing do her own going on way. Take our own things. We need to begin to think like the Lord we need to begin to to live like Jesus. That's why he gave us his Spirit. Paul says that they are contrary one to another they fight against each other. Our flesh wants aren't where it's designed not design, but because of a design perfect be created perfect in the image of God, but sin entered in and it and it caused us to be selfish and and design our own way.

You know we want we can watch little children and as they grow up when I find out who they have something and it's mine and it's mine and I'm not going to share. I have to learn to share they have to learn and sometimes we as adults. We don't may not look like that but we're still acting in the same fashion as the same form that it's mine. It's my life. It's my way. I'm going to do it. Instead of living in the spirit and lying God to guide us and lead us to care for one another that we live in the spirit and not under that old. First 19 because the tell us what happens when we begin to live in the flesh. Now the works of the flesh are manifest which of these adultery fornication unclean lasciviousness idolatry witchcraft hatred variant simulations wrath strife seditions and heresies. Envy murders drunkenness revellings and as such like a which I tell you is before I have also told you and time passed that they would do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. How can we be careful? How can we be careful living in the spirit to avoid these shortfalls?

No, we don't like anything else we talked about I guess, you know.

Well, I don't do that. I don't I don't you know, I don't do murder. I don't do fornication. I'm not I'm not in a Dollar Tree. I don't Devin witchcraft by not where do we enter into? We have hatred in our hearts for certain people or certain things certain actions. Do you like rats or Strife rise up at times we fall into these things? It's it's it's it's the work of the flesh. It's our desires and you know. Jesus said if you thinking you have done them. So I don't think any of us can say that you know, I'm not I'm with I don't fall into any of those things. I think we have our attitudes are our thought processes. Sometimes we think things even if we don't put on Fourth we we we think them it ain't that we send. The God says that you know what I want when we live that way and we and we want to live that way and we walk in that way. If we do those things we shall not inherit the kingdom of God folk sets. I need to realize what we're what we're doing. Now. Paul says there's that wore the flash that that's taking place that we need to be careful of that that there's a war going on in there. So we need to be careful of what it is.

But there's hope and that's a good part Hallelujah verse 22 Paul shares Wilson 23, but the fruit of the spirit is love and joy, peace, longsuffering gentleness. Goodness Faith meekness Temperance against such there is no law.

We can. overcome we can overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of Our Testimony.

and we need to to walk in the spirit. We need to have the fruit of the spirit. So when that wore when we fail that that fruit brings long suffering brings forgiveness brings patience brings a desire to to restore to reconcile. To our brothers and sisters to reach out to those that we think or thought or whatever, you know don't deserve. You know, when we get angry with someone. What are what are we doing? What are we thinking when we do those things we get we need to spirit of God to bring us back into repentance. We need the spirit of God to bring us back into the right relationship. And if we continue to walk in the flash, there's a danger of being we will not be in the kingdom of God. We need to be mindful. We need to be careful of you know, it. It's being a Pentecostal to me is not all about the hoopla of all the jumping in the shower. I think there's a whole lot more to being a Pentecostal then speaking in tongues, you know, laying on hands and somebody falling over. Those things are real and they do happen and we praise God for them that God's working in people's lives and they take place. But if I'm all I do is that for us a Sunday morning or Sunday evening or whatever it is, and I'm not living in any of that the rest of the week. Where's the spirit? Where is the spirit poured out on me on All Flesh? Where is the spirit poured out on you where it where is it that we're walking? Are we walking in the fruit of the spirit. Are we seeking to walk in the street of the spread? The first thing we need to do is love and we need to walk enjoy and I know there's their struggles in life Oaks II realize that we have these things but this is the fruit of the spirit and if we're not seeing that fruit and us we need to ask God to help us or I need your sobriety or spear poured out on me. Iniesta, you notice to help me the guide me to but I want to see the fruit of that spirit. I want to see the fruit poured out to those around me and let you know when I fail that you would convict me Lord that you would that you would draw me back that you would direct me or that that's what I I want to see that's what I need in my life.

I went on to say verses 24 through 26 of Galatians chapter 5 and they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the spirit, let us also walk in the spirit. Let us not be desirous of vainglory provoking one another envying one another choice in the goodness of what God is doing with those around us, but also help us. Oh God not the walked in the affections of lust but in the affections of the Flies, but walk in the spirit live in the spirit move in the spirit.

What does being a Pentecostal mean to you? What does it mean to you? It again, we've seen things that happened in. Minneapolis Minnesota this week. That's that's Troublesome. There's there's no there's not

I want man could do that to another.

how others could stand around it and that Nnn not do anything.

Then we've got all this unrest has come out of that.

I don't know how many people are involved in that that are Christians are not Christians or

but I'm telling us that what does it mean to be a Pentecostal? What does it mean to live by the spirit?

It's more than then the shouting in the hoop.

and I think Johnson bit up

as we read first John Chapter 4 verses 10 through 21 Herein is love. Not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son to be a propitiation for our sins.

Beloved of God so loved us. We also to love one another. No, man has seen God at any time if we love one another God dwelleth in us and his love is perfected in US.

Hereby know we that we dwell in him and he in us because he has given us his spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the father sent the son to be the savior of the world that whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the son of God God dwelleth in him and he in God.

And we have known and believe. The love that God has to us God is love and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect that we may have boldness in the day of judgment because as he is so are we in this world?

There is no fear in love, but perfect love cast out fear because fear has torment he that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him because he loved he first loved us. If a man say I love God and hates his brother is a liar. For he that loveth not his own brother whom he has seen. How can he love God whom he has not seen?

And this commandment have we from him? That he who love God love his brother also.

What does being a Pentecostal mean to you?

I don't think this is a

a typical Pentecostal message

I struggled knowing what this was this week and so much of the of the joy that we have the spirit of God.

and also to know that

If I'm a Pentecostal and I need and I want God spirit in me than God Spirit indwells me and it's not just for.

the celebration of Pentecost But it needs to be an everyday life long experience of God's spirit in my life. And I fail I'm not telling but I accomplished set all the time.

But I'm saying to me and to you.

That if we Harbor hate or variance or emulation or anger or bitterness in our hearts for somebody else. for another human being for a brother created in the image of God.

And we need to ask God to forgive us.

That his Spirit would would teach us? The spirit would Minister to us. We need to ask ourselves what it means to be a Pentecostal.

Folks it's it's more than shouting on Sunday morning. It's more than then she'll it's loving and caring and reaching out and pouring out. It means sometimes sacrifice to To help a brother or sister.
