HOOK

Welcome back to the verse by verse study of the gospel of John
Quick review of what we learned yesterday as we begun with chapter 8:
DO NOT JUDGE OTHER PEOPLE
ONCE FORGIVEN, SIN NO MORE
DISCLAIMER: When I give application points, and you don’t seem to agree with my summarized statements— be sure to listen again and read back on the passage that I based it from
Because if you haven’t heard the explanation to the summarized application points— you might take me “out of context”— example: “hindi ako dapat maligo”— “hindi dapat ako maligo kapag ako ay may sakit at ipinagbawal ng aking doktor!”
Let’s continue, open your Bible to John 8:12-20, once you got there, type Amen!

BOOK

John 8:12–20 NLT
12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” 13 The Pharisees replied, “You are making those claims about yourself! Such testimony is not valid.” 14 Jesus told them, “These claims are valid even though I make them about myself. For I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don’t know this about me. 15 You judge me by human standards, but I do not judge anyone. 16 And if I did, my judgment would be correct in every respect because I am not alone. The Father who sent me is with me. 17 Your own law says that if two people agree about something, their witness is accepted as fact. 18 I am one witness, and my Father who sent me is the other.” 19 “Where is your father?” they asked. Jesus answered, “Since you don’t know who I am, you don’t know who my Father is. If you knew me, you would also know my Father.” 20 Jesus made these statements while he was teaching in the section of the Temple known as the Treasury. But he was not arrested, because his time had not yet come.
Things to look for when studying the Bible— CHARACTER, COMMAND, PROMISES, EXAMPLE, CONVICTION, CHALLENGES & ENCOURAGEMENTS
In today’s passage, we see more the CHARACTER of Jesus— Let’s take a look
WHAT: Jesus declared that he is the light of the world
WHERE: At the temple near the treasury
WHY: Because if you follow Jesus you won’t walk in darkness— you will have light that leads to life
WHEN: Could be the same day when the Pharisees brought the adulterous woman
WHO: Jesus and the Pharisees

LOOK

I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
This is the second I am statement used by Jesus— let me show all of his 7 I am statements— be ready to write down the verse for your own verification later— ready?
I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE [JOHN 6:35]
I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD [JOHN 8:12]
I AM THE DOOR (GATE) OF THE SHEEP [JOHN 10:7]
I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD [JOHN 10:11]
I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE [JOHN 11:25]
I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE [JOHN 14:6]
I AM THE TRUE VINE [JOHN 15:1]
YOU ARE MAKING THOSE CLAIMS ABOUT YOURSELF! SUCH TESTIMONY IS NOT VALID
The legalistic Pharisees once again referred to the law of Moises— I’ll show that in a while, let me just highlight how Jesus answered
IF TWO PEOPLE AGREED ABOUT SOMETHING, THEIR WITNESS IS ACCEPTED AS FACT
Jesus knows their law but he appears to distance from them— DEUTERONOMY 19:15
I AM ONE WITNESS, AND MY FATHER WHO SENT ME IS THE OTHER
Remember when Jesus was baptized by John the baptist?— the voice from heaven witnessed for him as the son [MATTHEW 3:17]
