The Discipline of a Loving God

Are we brought up correctly in this world so that we are made perfect?

We don't need to be changed into something for the better.

Or is that all wrong and the love of the lord knows exactly what's good for all of us to change us into a better version of ourselves with just the right discipline?

This week's sermon is titled "The Discipline of a Loving God" and we will be reading through Hebrews book twelve verses one to thirteen.

The overall meaning of this sermon is that God will discipline us, but he will do it with love, so don't take it harshly.

This must happen.

As children of God, it's for our own good.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.

And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Think about him who faced such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.4.

In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

5 And have you completely forgotten this encouraging word that is addressed to you as a father addresses his son?

It says, "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, 6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son." 7. Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his child.

What children are not disciplined by their father?

8 If you are not disciplined-and everyone is disciplined-you are not legitimate, you are not true sons and daughters.

Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us, and we respect them for it.

How much more should we live if we submit to the Father of Spirits? 10 They disciplined us as they saw fit for a short time, but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in his holiness.11)

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but it is painful.

Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

12. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.

13: "Make level paths for your feet," so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

The world has been set apart from God, not knowing our lord and savior.

Most people in this world have never experienced a relationship with Jesus Christ.

A lot of people in this world have been raised in different settings where they didn't have the privilege of coming from a household, school, or church to teach them what the bible is and how to observe the law.

We now know our lord, Jesus Christ.

We know the law as well.

We are set apart from this world, knowing him.

He set an example of the way we must live our lives.

He's also aware of what must be done for us to become like him.

The lords' discipline is the best thing to bring us into the likeness of him.

So we can be made holy and righteous.

He disciplines everyone he accepts as his son.

It is a blessing for you to be disciplined by the Lord (Psalms 94:12).

Blessed are those whom you discipline, Lord, and whom you teach from your law).

He treats you just like his own child.

Jesus is God.

He came here for us to save us from what we could not do.

He lived a sinless life and then died for all of us because we are incapable of sinning.

We are still are.

That's why his discipline is necessary.

Instruction from the one who did not sin is the best way to transform us into people that can come closer to his righteousness more and more.

God himself is helping change us for the better.

If you return to the Lord, then your fellow Israelites and your children will be shown compassion by their captors and will return to this land, for the Lord your God is gracious and compassionate.

He will not turn his face away from you if you return to him.

" (See 2 Chronicles 30:9) In this verse, it is easy to see how he cares for us.

After we have gone away from the law, if we repent as we did when we first were saved, he will not reject you.

Jesus is kind to take us back and give us another chance to repent, to turn from all wickedness.

When we repent, we must continue to keep away from sin and everything unrighteous.

Discipline is the best way we can help accomplish this.

Without it, living in this world without the Lord's discipline and its ways would not set us up for success in keeping God's law.

It wouldn't be fruitful.

Sin is in everything and everywhere.

The enemy has completely turned this world into a den of unrighteousness where even people who call themselves Christians are doing the same sins and ungodly actions they did before they believed.

Using Jesus's sacrifice as an excuse to do what they want.

His sacrifice for your sins won't matter if you deliberately choose to rebel against God (If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left (Hebrews 10:26)).

The Lord is showing his love for us through his discipline.

Just as a father would want to discipline his child for their own good.

He's doing this to us.

As Christians, the most important goal we should have is to inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

To be sinless like him.

His discipline will guide us into accomplishing this way more easily than we could possibly do on our own.

If he doesn't do this, you are not truly his son or daughter.

Discipline is not permanent.

It's not going to be pleasant, and hardship will come.

Not only will it test your faith, but it will also be his discipline for you.

There might be stress and other pains that might be uncomfortable, but keep your faith and trust that there will be a lot of positive gain, which should be your main goal to be like him.

In conclusion, the points I'm trying to make in this sermon are simple.

We require the Lord's discipline, and he does so out of love for us.

The best way for us to truly change into his image is by going through this.

It's not permanent and there are going to be hardships you go through and this is going to hurt at times, but don't take it negatively.

In the end, you will be glad.

You will have so much righteousness and an abundance of peace.
