God had set this church on a Journey years ago.
It has a God Given Heritage.
Many of you here this morning have been a part of this Heritage.
I am here this morning to remind us, though, this church has a God Given Journey set before us today.
I believe God desired my family and I to be part of this God Given Journey.
I believe God desired you and your family to be a part of it as well.
I also believe he is not finished inviting others to be a part of this God Given Journey.
TITLE: GOD GIVEN JOURNEY
Pledge:
Passage: Jeremiah 1:5 5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.
Prayer:
ME
Getting Older: Tracing my heritage!!
Scottish Heritage (talk about and trace it up to WV.)
Struggles (High’s and Low’s) I read about within the family
Here is one thing I am sure of .... I have a God Given Heritage!!
I also believe God has a GOD GIVEN JOURNEY for me to fulfill.
What’s being asked of me? ...... “Fulfill It!”
Transition Statement: Every one of us has a God Given Heritage but we also have a God Given Journey to fulfill as well.
WE
All of us have a Heritage … A Family we are from!
Crazy Uncle or Aunt (If not you might me that crazy one then).
Your families have the (High’s and Low’s).
You Have a God Given Heritage!
You also have a God Given Journey to fulfill!
What’s being asked of you is “To Fulfill it!
Transition Statement: Even Jesus was handed a God Given Journey to fulfill.
GOD
You know what we read in the Bible/Gospels is Christ’s God Given Journey being fulfilled!
I think we would all agree Jesus had a God Given Heritage.
Being sent to this world He had a God Given Journey to fulfill.
The Book of Mark lay’s this out really well.
Knowing this then .... What did Jesus know about His God Given Journey?
First, He knew ...... Who was Leading Him! (Mark 1:12 The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.”
Next, He knew ...... What the Journey entailed!
There would be “Rest Stops / Ministry Opportunities / Miraculous moments” along the way.
All of this was to be expected
All of these were revealed as well.
The Journey is not just about the Final Destination! Its about the Journey to the Final Destination!
Next, He knew ...... He wasn’t Journeying along.
The Disciples
(Mk 1:16–17) 16 Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”
(Mk 1:19–20) 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.
(Mk 2:13–14) 13 He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them. 14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.
(Mk 3:13–19) 13 And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. 14 And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach 15 and have authority to cast out demons. 16 He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); 17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); 18 Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot, 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
The Crowd
The Pharisees
The Enemy
Finally, He Knew ...... His Final Destination!
(Mark 8:31) 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.
(Mark 9:30-31) 30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, 31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
(Mark 10:33-34) 33 saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. 34 And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”
(Mark 10:45) 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
The Cross!
Transition Statement: Knowing that even Christ was fulfilling a God Given Journey, ...... we are to fulfill our God Given Journey as well!
YOU
Let us find Joy in the Journey.
Tell the Story of me and my family ROAD TRIPS
Transition Statement: The Journey is not just about the Final Destination! Its about the Journey to the Final Destination!
WE
I want to leave us with a Challenge today .....
Accept your God Given Journey He has you on.
God knew you before he created you! (Jeremiah 1:5 5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”)
He created you for a purpose
On this Journey remember this .....
Someone is leading you!
Holy Spirit or the Enemy
Expect the unexpected!
Don’t Journey Alone!
Not Biblical
Keep you eyes fixed on the Final Destination!
