All over Missouri, churches are taking steps, like we are, to reassemble live on their respective campuses.

Who will come?
Who will stay home?
Longtimers? New People?
You know, the only thing that distinguishes the Church from any other 501(c)3 organization is the presence of the Lord, Himself.
Exodus 33:15–16 ESV
15 And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. 16 For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth?”

Which Got me to thinking about the Presence of Jesus. What if Jesus walked into the room? This morning.

What if the most noteworthy person who came to Osage Hills this morning is Jesus Christ? What If HE Walked Into the Room?
Over the next six weeks we are going to explore six questions around that important idea… and we begin this morning with the question:

How Would You Know It’s Him?

The likelihood is, IF he walked into the room — initially, we wouldn’t know it was HIM.
The Christmas Pageant Jesus — walk down the aisle
End times Jesus
If he walked into the room...
Jesus isn’t always the straight shooter we’d like him to be.
He talks in code. (parables)
He hangs out with the wrong people. (least, last, lost)
He eats the wrong stuff
He works when he shouldn’t
And even in his resurrection, he still isn’t the straight shooter we would like him to be.
Luke 24:13–16 ESV
13 That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, 14 and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened. 15 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. 16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.
Jesus asks, “What are you talking about while you are walking?
The disciples tell the story of Jesus to Jesus not knowing it is him.
As you read the story you can’t believe that they don’t know it’s him.
If he can walk into their room and they not know it’s him, don’t you think it is possible he could walk into our room and we have the same sight problem?

He’s talking to Drew Brees about Drew Brees and he doesn’t even know it is Drew Brees...
And if that can happen to Anderson with the cameras rolling! — don’t you think the first question we have to pause and consider is this one: If He walked into the room, how would you know it’s him.
One of the things that would have to be in place to make it tough to know Drew was there is zero expectation that he would even be here. Anderson wasn’t even looking for him!
Anderson knows Drew owns the place, but he doesn’t expect him to show up there — especially not in the kitchen as a swampee!
The disciples on the Road to Emmaus knows he just died — they certainly don’t expect him to show up walking with them on the road. — THEY WEREN’T EVEN LOOKING FOR HIM.
All you did this morning was get up and go to church — many of you at home haven’t even brushed your teeth yet! You’re just going to church… WE’RE JUST GOING TO CHURCH — WE AREN’T EVEN LOOKING FOR HIM!
And when you aren’t looking for him, all that’s left is for Him to reveal himself.
Brees’ reveal
Jesus reveals himself — that’s how you know it’s Him. He reveals Himself even as he does with his friends as they walked.
Luke 24:28–35 ESV
28 So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther, 29 but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them. 30 When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” 33 And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, 34 saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” 35 Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.
His Presence… His presence is what takes the average, ho-hum days of working in the kitchen and turning those days and our hearts into overflowing.
Matthew 28:20 ESV
20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

He IS in the room. Right now.

Do you see Him? See Him — right now.
