1 Corinthians 13:4 NIV
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
1 Corinthians 13:5 NIV
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
No records!!!
Matthew 19:4 ESV
He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female,
Matthew 19:5 ESV
and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?
Matthew 19:6 ESV
So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
We must become one, and not only physically.
I think this is one of the hardest things for people because they want to continue to live a separate life from their spouse.
It doesn’t work like that. The two lives must become one.
In marriage you have now made a covenant not only with each other, but also with God.
It’s a binding agreement that says through the good times and the bad times, Im here, I’m with you, your not alone we have each other.
Those are the vows we made to one another.
How do you become one???
You must die to yourself to become one!!!
That means sacrificing for your spouse.
Marriage is work!!!
It’s demonstrating your love, loyalty, and commitment even if your spouse doesn’t respond in the same manner.
Four Elements in God’s perfect order of marriage.
A man shall Leave their parents… The couple now form there own family unit. The loyalty to your parents should never be stronger than the loyalty toward your spouse.
Hold fast to his wife… Commit to hold on to one another regardless of how difficult it may be.
Become one flesh… Learn about each other, communicate what you like and dislike. You cannot become one flesh if your only concerned about your own needs.
They were not ashamed… To be naked is to be vulnerable, it’s being transparent. This is the way we should be able to be with our spouse. Hiding nothing!!!
