*2 Peter 1:16-18 ~~* 16For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
17For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”— 18and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
*"**Matthew 17:1-5 ~~* Jesus took Peter, James and John and led them up on a high mountain and He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.
Then a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”
 
These guys were* terrified *according to the Bible – later when Paul saw Jesus this way he was *knocked to the ground* and *blinded* for three days.
Here Peter is saying that the facts leading to an introduction to Jesus come from *eyewitnesses*.
*John* says he teaches about what they had *heard*, *seen*, *looked at* and *touched*.
*2 Peter 1:19 ~~ *So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.
The Word of God is His Word – in this case actually *confirmed*.
The *N.T. confirms the O.T.* we can therefore not only trust the validated O.T., but he N.T. as well because it validates what is validated.
*Example: O.T. 2*x10=20* ~~ N.T.* 20~/10=*2 *~~ because the new validates the old it also proves the new is correct.
The Bible claims to be the very words of God *3,808* times in the Old Covenant alone.
*14 authors* specifically claim to be relating God’s Word.
*Jesus* refers to the Hebrew Scripture as the authoritative *Word of God* and more than *10%* of His words are Old Covenant quotes or allusions, that’s more than *180 times*.
The New Covenant refers to at least *161* Old Covenant events and quotes from over *246* passages of the Hebrew Scripture.
Jesus fulfilled *47* Old Covenant prophecies and another *33* have been fulfilled that don’t directly relate to Jesus.
*2 Peter 1:20&21 ~~ *20But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
 
*Can we interpret the Bible?* No, is the short answer, but God can… He illuminates His Word by His Holy Spirit.
People who *humbly and openly seek* the teaching of the Holy Spirit through the Bible will be rewarded, but this *should not be private*.
If 2,000 years of God-fearing *scholars* have never seen what you see you should be *nervous*.

The great *Rabbis *of Jesus’ day totally missed the* 47 prophesies *fulfilled by Jesus in their midst.
We have seen in the last few weeks where Paul and Peter advocate far greater stress on *reinforcing the basics* as opposed to spending time delving in to minutia.
Minutia always *leads to division* and you will be *wrong anyway*.
*No one has ever known Scripture better than the Pharisees 2,000* years ago and look what it got them!
No one knows it like my *computer…*
 
What’s important?
*Put into practice* that which you do know and remain *humble* before the *Great Shepherd* who will lead you to *grass* and *safe water*.

*2 Peter 2:1-3 ~~ *1But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
2Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; 3and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

*2 Peter 2:4-6 ~~* 4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment; 5and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter;
 
*Revelation 9:1&11 ~~* 1Then the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven which had fallen to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit was given to him.

*2 Peter 2:9&10a ~~9*then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment, *10a*and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority.
*Helix Nebula* 700 light-years away (1 trillion miles x 4,000+) (*Venus is 24 million miles so 120 thousand roundtrips to Venus = 1 light-year* x 700).
*Un-right-ness *with God will result in judgment.
Especially harsh for those who *indulge their lust* and *despise authority*.

We shall be rescued from temptation *by God if we *actively follow Christ *and* beware false teachers*
