Alêtheia Christian Fellowship ~~ 2 Peter 1a ~~ 092808

Vickie’s sister okay & Tres Dias was good.
*Piazza* at the Vatican from St. Peter’s Basilica
*Obelisk* was 1,300 years old when moved to Rome by *Caligula* 2,000 years ago in *37 A.D*.

2nd catholic epistle dated to about *65 A.D.*

*2 Peter 1:**1 ~~* Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

*Shĕ-mown* שִׁימוֹן   Peter, Simon, Cephas, Simeon

dou~~lov refers to one who serves another to the *disregard of his own interests*.
Having *obtained* (allotted to) a faith of *equal value* to ours.
How?
by the *righteousness* of our *God and Savior*.
Righteousness is *always relational* – do you see that?
God and Savior = *(KJV) …of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ *

The correct Greek grammar used throughout the Bible and other literature requires that the *two terms *God (qeou~~) and Savior (swth~~rov) are *descriptive* of one person – Jesus Christ.
*2 Peter 1:2-4 ~~* 2Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
4For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
*2-*   Grace and peace are *entered into and made useful* only with deeper knowledge of God and of Jesus, */TRINITY/*

This is by the Holy Spirit and is *building faith through relational experience*.
“Full knowledge” (ejpi>gnwsiv) is a stronger word than gnw~~siv; (Gnostic & the word “KNOW”) it means “knowledge” *directed towards an object*, gradually approaching nearer and nearer to it, concentrated upon it, fixed closely upon it.
So it comes to mean *the knowledge*, not merely of intellectual apprehension, but rather of deep contemplation; the knowledge which *implies love*—for only love can concentrate continually the powers of the soul in close meditation upon its object.
Example: You can know everything there is to know about *German Shepherds*, but until you bond with one over time as your personal friend you don’t *EPI-KNOW* them

*3-*   God *has provided* everything here and future for our *spiritual need* as a *gift* through the *active agency* of the *accurate knowledge* of Him.

*There is no substitute for Truth!*
He *called* us due to His *Splendor* and *Virtue*
* *
*4-**   *His nature has given us salvation into* everlasting relationship *and because we have been* regenerated *we* presently experience the divine nature *more and more.
Because of His Spirit *we have escaped* our old life *enslaved to the futility *of serving lust.
Why is there corruption of God’s design?
*Mankind’s insatiable lust*

*2 Peter 1:5-7 ~~* 5Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.
For *the reason that we are no longer slaves* to the flesh, but now slaves to God we must be diligent.
*Disciplined and serious* because we work for the ultimate Master in scary authority and in unbelievable love.
The word is spoudh> and means both eagerness and haste so it means *to do one’s best*.
►   In your faith supply moral excellence, (*Who are you?*)
\\ In your moral excellence, knowledge, (*Learn more*) \\ \\ In your knowledge, self-control ejgkra>teia, (*Full Fruit*) \\ \\ In your self-control, perseverance uJpomonh>, (*Remain*) \\ \\ In your perseverance, godliness, (*Like God*) \\ \\ In your godliness, brotherly kindness filadelfi>a, \\ \\ In your brotherly kindness, love ajga>ph.
*2 Peter 1:8&9 ~~* 8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
Paul talks about a guy who looks into the *mirror* and immediately forgets what he looks like.
We just saw in Romans the concept of not being conformed suschmati>zw to this world system, but rather transformed metamorfo>w by the *renewing of our mind*.
We *must understand before we can have true faith*.
People can believe in things without understanding, but their faith will be shaken when something goes awry.
Notice a very important word – *“Increasing,”* you won’t arrive until you die, but you must continue the journey

*2 Peter 1:10-12 ~~* 10Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
12Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you.
*10-* Once again, because of all that… make *certain* about *your future*!

*God’s salvation cannot fail*, period - the question is, “are you saved?”

*How can we ensure our position*?
It is by diligently practicing the things he has laid out.
We are neither human beings nor human doings; we are actually human becomings.
But *we must actually do* in order to assist our becoming into being.
*Disciplines are necessary* – you say I don’t need *regimentation* in order to make time for the Lord – but if you *don’t make time there will never be time*.
*11-* *Strive* to be who you *really are* and *see the fruit* and know that God’s Spirit dwells within you – *be assured*!
*12-* Once again, just as Paul said in Romans, we see that it is *far more important to repeatedly* go over the foundations of the true faith than to *delve into disputable* doctrine.
*2 Peter 1:13-15 ~~* 13I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
15And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.
Basilica of St. Peter in Chains in Rome built 1,600 years ago.
Just as Paul told the Romans, Peter is confident in the next generation of Christians to carry on – in the mean-time he will *continue to remind them* of what that means foundationally.
*Hope *can be *false*, *ineffective* or *indefinite*, but true hope based on *accurate knowledge in relationship* will never fail.
*In whom do you trust?*
