Alêtheia Christian Fellowship  ~~  Sermon 90  ~~  October 2, 2005

Story of old friend and rich woman.
*§ James Chapter 5:1-3 ~~*
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you.
Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten.
Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire.
It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!
Come now c 4 v 13.
We should never presume things-- The foolish and arrogant in chapter 4 and now the rich.
*§ James Chapter 5:4-6 ~~*
Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, /and/ which has been withheld by you, cries out /against you/; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
(sabawq) You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.
You have condemned and put to death the righteous /man/; he does not resist you.
(sabawq, צְבָאָה tseb ah ah) Mass of people; army.
It's all about attitude.
Story of rich woman.
It's a heart thing, and it always is… Humble to be saved and transparent to be real.
What do you really believe and how much do you believe it?
Catch a football or get a rebound.
Become a pilot or own your own business.
What are you willing to give up to get….
How much do you believe and how important is God to you?

Give up alcohol?
TV? Ice Cream?
We are so totally wrapped up in this world I'm not sure you could extract us with dynamite.
God has a different way to invest.
*Matthew 19:21&22 ~~* Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go /and/ sell your possessions and give to /the/ poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.

*Matthew 6:19-21 ~~*
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
*§ Luke 12:15-21 ~~*
Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not /even/ when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”
And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive.
“And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’
“Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
‘And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years /to come/; take your ease, eat, drink /and/ be merry.”’
“But God said to him, ‘You fool!
This /very/ night your soul is required of you; and /now/ who will own what you have prepared?’
“So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

*James 5:7-8 ~~** Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord.
The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.
You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.
*

*James 5:9 ~~** Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.
*

*James 5:10-11 ~~** As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
We count those blessed who endured.
You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and /is/ merciful.
*

*James 5:12 ~~** But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.*
