HOOK

In the course of our study of John 6— When Jesus declared that he is the bread of life
Jesus said, whoever “comes” to me will never be hungry, and whoever “believes” in me will never be thirsty
Jesus said, whoever comes to him, he will never drive away— he will not reject anyone
And a very important statement he said was, “I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day” [JOHN 6:39]— That is eternal security
I mentioned yesterday that there are two school of thoughts— There is a long-standing debate about eternal security that’s why I gave you the whole 24 hours to meditate on it while referring to scriptures.
Yesterday I said that, “I MUST FIRST COME TO JESUS TO BELIEVE HIM”
I left you with a question—
IS MY SALVATION SECURED?
DO I HAVE TO WORK ON MY SALVATION?
Before I proceed I’d like you to type your answer if you would— if your stand disagrees with what I am about to teach you— that will be fine— I could respect your position, or after hearing what I’ll teach you today— you may dig deeper about this important doctrine
Let me take you again to what the Lord said yesterday about “not loosing all those the Father has given him”— Eternal Security

BOOK

John 6:38–39 NIV
38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.
ELECTED by the Father — ELECTION [chosen]
Ephesians 1:4 NIV
4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
JUSTIFIED by the Son— JUSTIFICATION
Galatians 2:16 NIV
16 know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.
SANCTIFIED by the Holy Spirit— SANCTIFICATION
1 Peter 1:2 NIV
2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
Ok, so based on these, the process on how a person is saved is very clear— what makes this matter contentious?
Work out your salvation
Philippians 2:12 NIV
12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
It’s not by works
Ephesians 2:8–9 NIV
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Going back to the question I had for you yesterday— IS MY SALVATION SECURED?— My answer is YES if you are genuinely saved
DO I HAVE TO WORK ON MY SALVATION?— My answer is NO
Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian.
John 10:29 NIV
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.
Hmmmm.. My salvation is secured, I don’t have to work out my salvation— So, I can accept Jesus and still live the my life the way I’d like it to— Absolutely NOT! If you are GENUINELY saved! The Holy Spirit will sanctify you [regeneration]
1 John 2:4 NIV
4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.
1 John 3:9 NIV
9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
