1 John 3:11-13

KJV: For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

NASB: For this is the message which you (NLT, we) have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous. Do not be surprised, brethren, if the world hates you.

NLT: This is the message we have heard from the beginning: We should love one another. We must not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because Cain had been doing what was evil, and his brother had been doing what was right. So don’t be surprised, dear brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.

teknia, paidia, agaphtoi, - only here adelphoi    we is wrong it's y'all

Jesus says if you love me you'll obey me---obedience flows from love and obedience is love and obedience is to love.

Peopel are constantly missing the boat on what constitutes sin. The Gospel message from the beginning is love and it is actually the same exact thing God has desired from the real beginning. What was the Garden of Eden, but a place of relationship.

Adam and Eve betrayed God. Their disobedience was the proof that they didn't trust God, which in turn demonstrates the lack of real relationship and obviously the lack of love.

Cain would have been accepted if he did right, but it was easier to blame someone else for his inadequecy. His jealousy turned to anger which turned to hatred which turned to murder.

Make no mistake if you do right those who don't will hate you. If you allow God's love in you to flow back to God and others around you the Cain's of this world will hate you.

That fact is not our concern. We cannot repay hate with hate, but rather with love. "IT IS NOT MARTYRDOM TO PAY BILLS ONE HAS RUN UP THEMSELVES."

Ephesians 4:26-27 &  31&32
And “don’t sin by letting anger gain control over you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a mighty foothold to the Devil. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

1 John 3:14-16

KJV: We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

NASB: We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. (NLT: If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to eternal life) He who does not love abides in death (NLT, is still dead). Everyone who hates his brother (NLT, Christian) is a murderer (NLT at heart); and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. We know love (KJV, of God) by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. (NLT, Christian)

NLT: If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to eternal life. But a person who doesn’t love them is still dead. Anyone who hates another Christian is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don’t have eternal life within them. We know what real love is because Christ gave up his life for us. And so we also ought to give up our lives for our Christian brothers and sisters.

I've said many times the litmus test for Christianity is how much you love others and here it is in black and white.

The second reason the world hating us is not our concern is the fact that the worlds hatred of us is not the proof that we are Christians, rather it is our love. Not just any love, but agapê.

In His Sermon the Mount, Jesus says if you call someone a fool you are guilty enough to be thrown into the fiery hell.

We should be willing to go to our death for each other and certainly for God because that is what our role model did.

1John 3:17-21

KJV: But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

NASB: But whoever has the world’s goods (NLT: money), and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him (NLT: refuses to help), how does the love of God abide in him? (NLT: God’s love be in that person?) Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. We will know by this that we are of the truth (NLT: stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions. It is by our actions that we know we are living in the truth), and will assure our heart before Him in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

NLT: But if anyone has enough money to live well, and sees a brother or sister in need and refuses to help—how can God’s love be in that person?Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions. It is by our actions that we know we are living in the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before the Lord, even if our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if our conscience is clear, we can come to God with bold confidence.

Not just money, but in our society you can boil just about everything down to that.

Love of God is here again two things. Our refusal to love God and then our inability to have Godly love in us which prevents our love for God and here we go again.

Word is produced by tongue as deed is produced by Truth.

Again, it is the actual love for others that assures us of our relationship. It is the evidence.

Christianity is about a love relationship and we all fail from time-to-time and our heart condemns us, but we have assurance that God already knew what we've just discovered about ourself and we can rest in His mercy as long as we feel the God love in us we know it's going to be alright. How much better when we realize that love being extended through us to others and can boldly stand before God confident as His child.

1John 3:22-24

KJV: And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

NASB: and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

NLT: And we will receive whatever we request because we obey him and do the things that please him. And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. Those who obey God’s commandments live in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Holy Spirit lives in us.

Keep His commands, what are they? Love in our heart and we please Him by spending that love.

Romans 8:26-30 ~ In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

Romans 8:31-35 ~ What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Romans 8:36-39 ~ Just as it is written, “For Your sake we are being put to death all day long; We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

James 1:2-8 ~ Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
