HOOK

Everything that the Lord Jesus does is relevant and sensible— the only time that you will feel that the words of God are just empty words is when you don’t believe that He is the Son of God— who came in human form— who turned God’s Word into flesh
Yesterday we looked at the story when Jesus walked on water— and from it we learned timeless principles applicable to our obedient lives— what are those?
I WILL NOT BE AFRAID EVEN WHEN THINGS GET ROUGH
I WILL BE WILLING TO TAKE JESUS ONBOARD MY LIFE
I WILL FOCUS ON JESUS NOT ON MY ROUGH SITUATIONS
He fed the 5,000 because he wants to show signs so that they may believe— and every miracle he did came with lessons that we must learn
This next story that we will glean on today is the part when Jesus taught things that they and us should learn after eating [receiving his blessings]
This story when Jesus declared that he is the bread of life is quite a long story with extensive lessons to learn— so we will cover this for the rest of our week— until Friday
Open your Bible to John 6:25— we will study 6 verses because it branches out to the old testament when God supplied the Israelites with Manna [thin flakes— frost in the ground— What is it?] & Quail [kind of bird] as their daily provision while wandering in the wilderness.

BOOK

John 6:25–31 NIV
25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” 26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” 28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” 29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” 30 So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

LOOK

NOT BECAUSE YOU SAW THE SIGNS I PERFORMED BUT BECAUSE YOU ATE THE LOAVES AND HAD YOUR FILL
Jesus accused them of following Him in pursuit of material satisfaction, not out of genuine faith
DO NOT WORK FOR FOOD THAT SPOILS, BUT FOR FOOD THAT ENDURES TO ETERNAL LIFE
Everything expires except for the bread of life [Jesus]
When Jesus said, He is the bread of life-- he meant the "Word" that became flesh- it is not his flesh that we will literally eat, but it is His words
Jesus-- God who came in human form-- the word that became flesh-- gave life to God's Word so that people may believe
God’s Word endures forever— [ISAIAH 40:8, MATTHEW 24:35, LUKE 21:33]
BELIEVE IN THE ONE HE HAS SENT
They asked what they must do to do the works of God— plain and direct answer of Jesus was, “believe”
The only work necessary for salvation is faith in Jesus— [EPHESIANS 2:8-9]
OUR ANCESTORS ATE MANNA IN THE WILDERNESS
Let me take you to the EXODUS 16 where you can find what these people referred to [VERSES 1-5, 11-16]
They were instructed to gather just enough for that day— they were only allowed to gather twice of what they needed on the 6th day so that they don’t have to gather on the Sabbath day of worship and rest

TOOK

I WILL SEEK JESUS WITH THE RIGHT REASONS
I WILL FEED ON THE BREAD THAT DOESN’T EXPIRE
GOD WILL PROVIDE MY DAILY NEEDS
