A Focus on the Family

Who might be present with us today is awesome to be here and I'm grateful. We're going to jump right into the word because we got rather a long day ahead of us and I don't want you to be just stuck here looking at a computer screen, but we can get to the business of acknowledging what God is being able to.

Worship but then also celebrate our mother's so please let's just take this moment to pray and it will focus on the road in front of us. Thank you so much for what you have already allowed us to participate in thank you for the mornings Christian education. Thank you for that time of just connecting and building Community. Even though it was chat God. We still felt presence of our brothers and sisters there but now we energy your presence and we pray you would meet us in this time. And in this way and in this space and place and just allow the presence of your Holy Spirit to invade and fill us with it the power that you promised it was a spirit is that would be power and Liberty and freedom and we need all that his his presence brings today. Separate us from disconnect us from things that are worldly and distracting us from what you might say for your word. Thank you for everything. We have seen and heard up to this moment. But now we need you to speak so God. We just ask that you would provide Power give Clarity Supply your wisdom and your knowledge through the Fallout vessel that I am and God let it be poured out to your people searches. No God no us find the things that are not like you and take it away create clean Hearts within us renew the right Spirit if there is a Harding Place in the ground of our hearts break it up God if there are file that seek to do if our the word before it falls into the fertile soil of us. We pray God you become the protector. Remove the Thorns of life that might choke at Sky, but also bring us to a place where we can also be prepared to be fruitful benefactors of that planning. It's in Jesus name we pray that every heart says a man. Alright, so this morning Are we going to be in the gospel of Mark chapter 5? We continue in our series of sermons from the gospel of Mark in the gospel of Mark in this sermon series. We are looking at Mark riding in a can of a rapid Pace but still we will have any servants will highlight some of the the elements of distraction division Discord. It was coming to get the work done coming against the work in the words of Jesus as he came to redeem falling Man Mark rights and brevity. He covers a lot of the Life of Christ, but he moves in a pace where he's rapidly getting Jesus to the actual resurrection of the relationship the restoration of our connection between us has created beings in him is the creator of all beings and I hope today we can focus in on the family Mark chapter 5 verses 21 through 34 will be reading out of the King James. Let's start first 21 you'll find these words now when Jesus had crossed over again by BO2 does he saw a great multitude gathered to him? And he was by the sea.

She had spent all that she had and was no better rather grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came behind him in the crowd and touched His Garment for she said if only I may touch his clothes. I shall be made well. Immediately the Fountain of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. And Jesus immediately knowing himself the power had gone out of him turned around the crowd and said who touched my clothes my clothes but his disciples sending him. You see the multitude wrong and you and you say who touched me. And he looked around to see her who had done this thing. Let me do 33 but the woman fearing and trembling knowing what it happened to her came and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. Last verse and he said to her daughter your face has made you well go in peace and be healed of your affliction. Hey, man. Alright, let's talk about Focus on the Family. Focus on the Family

I don't know if you guys recognize this passage of scripture. I don't know it's familiar. But when I think about the theme of Mark the one we're seeking to show a gospel of conflict or in conflict with taking his paws here to look at a focus on the family. There's a very clear narrative this starts to shape. We're watching Jesus moved through this portion of his gospel Ministry the life and work of redemption and after such a dramatic move of killing the demon-possessed man landed himself in position where he's about to encounter a family in crisis, not necessarily a nuclear family. Like we say not a mom and dad a daughter or son or that intimate circle of blood relatives, but we're more talking about the family of the faithful. An Israelite Nation kind of broken and segment it and its positioning. We've got that religious right that should have represented the head of the face household being almost compared to things worse than Satan himself. So determined in letting their words be as powerful as the words of God. They have created this religious obsession with the oral tradition that even tops the priority of the written word of God. So they left the levitical Mandate and then now making the rules of the temple be like the voice and words are rules of God. They've created this almost hierarchy among themselves were the people I'm not being led to worship by the spiritual leaders, but they are being called as the ones to be worship Pharisees scribes the rules of the temple have almost a Fame about them. Whereas serving as a priest meant you were a slave to the The work the worship and the requirements of God. They were supposed to be the one to make sure that God's chosen people will be prepared to find the redeeming Lamb of God when he arrived on the scene, but they aren't prepared. They weren't prepared. So they had has let that family down. We see the segmented parts of the family that which is meant to be fruitful and beneficial that we just meant to be the producer of Life. The maternal presence here represented in the woman with the issue of blood we find her in a state of uncleanliness and of destitution. She has been robbed of her resources or hope or her opportunity to show her her benefits in faithfulness or worthiness to her community. Her illness has created a division between her and her community. She's isolated. She is suffering in her body, but it Homemade her spiritually unapproachable to be unclean to be at the temple. She would not be approached by anyone who would deem her as a sufficient met or even take her on and and God blessed with the ability of being maternal presents for the life of a young young man or young woman. And then as the ruler represented the head he's coming on the behalf of a stricken daughter jairus's daughter is sick with an ailment unto death and it is driven the leader of the religious right to seek out Christ to find him to make him the Urgent make the Urgent plea of him doing for his young daughter with no power. No religious presents. No maternal figure could do and if we could pause there an introduction just a background of context. What I hope to get out of this is that God is concerned with the unification of the family both traditional and the spiritual he wants the household of faith to be United and its purpose and its presentation in its presence to the world. We have allowed things to come in and segments us and distract us and divide us but any good news to hear that the Savior the world is arriving now to address this conflict or evil and sin where Satan and his demonic wishes has created this chaos. God is coming back to put it back together into community and I hope we can look at three things there in that word and US focus on that. So let's just look at one of the first point as we go to focus on the family and was starting to decide what that means for us. First one. I see here and focus on the family. is that Tijeras finds Jesus Tiaras finds Jesus if that's the first point if that's what we're talkin about it. That's what we're looking at is what's the intentionality here? Then we see a great opportunity in the life of the believer in the scripture dropsy in on this passage is Jesus is arriving from removing the legions of demon from the possessed man in here Rodger on the seashore only be arrested by the religious right gyrus and if we take inductively to study we know right now that there is a reason why a A formal noun is used here a personal noun. Why is the name given the name jar Irish means one who got enlightens think about that one enlightened by God is now seeking the Savior and then that what should drive us to the Savior not our own desires for things to happen not I own wishes for watts in the presence of comfort but they're their roles something in the life of the one who was enlightened by God. They made him seek out a strength greater than he is a source with more provision and he can provide Power and a presence more powerful than is it states in Scripture that to hires is a ruler of the temple. He's one in charge of the worship in synagogue the order in the place that God is set up but even though his name isn't like my God. I think we are seeing him being darkened by Duty because if the family is in chaos, and he's a rule of the Temple. Destruction of the temple fall squarely on him if he's a part of leadership and the leadership has decided that the direction they're going is leading people away from God. Then I like the fact that unless the Christian need to seek out Jesus. No one else will either unless those meant to Usher others into the presence of God understand that they to need the presence of God that they need his provision that they need his power that they need his his physical presence in their lives his spiritual presence in their lives as well. Then that's that's no good for us to continue going to a place when it's out the appropriate power and presence of leadership. But the good news is that although Jesus is divinely coming to this land for this predestined time. Jaharis is already seeking Jesus out even before his arrival and how I know you seeking him because when he encounters the savior he does what anyone should do in the presence of a person with greater prominence than them special. Seeking to ask of a privilege of that powerful presence he falls on his face and he worships he falls on his face and he releases his role is authority to the authority of the one he's approaching. Can I just pause one second here and move from our information from our interpretive point and get to an applicable Point here is that there's no need for you to see Jesus out unless you going to give to him as his servant. That means you might be going for a particular issue. But once you buy all your releasing what you want to what he desires once you buy you're no longer in charge, you can make your plea but you must lay that squarely at the foot of the one you're pleading to and let whatever he decides to do next to be what he does and our problem is a lot of time who want to control the narrative even in the moment when we approached and the moment where we engage we don't want him to require anything of us. We don't want him to take us to be at his disposal. We're actually seeking him out so that we can get from him what we need and then go back to our old ways of doing this is it time out for that? I think this is a signifying of a different process. Now when we find the Savior when we accounting Him worship must be necessary, but the willingness to let go of what we want has to be on the table. Also. I know he's there because his daughter is he all I know you want what only Jesus could do and even in his statement even in the way that he speaks to the Lord. Shows us that he has steal this urge for him to control the power for provision. That's out of his control noticed. He doesn't simply lay his case at the feet of Jesus. He assumes that he must be able to deliver Jesus to wear. His issue is I don't know if you would have been with us throughout Journey here, but we visited a time when Jesus had to acknowledge that there was a centurion not of his people. Who can see in his presence with his own people couldn't recognize the Centurion how to save it servant to who was sick unto death. He had a requirement in a request to make of a power greater than he is. But notice this even though he was one who'll regions of of soldiers when he sought out the power greater than he is. He recognized he was not going as an equal. He was not going as a peer. He acknowledged that yes. I have power over men, but you have power over more than just me and Yes, I have authority to tell one coming. They come in one go to go, but you got way greater Authority than that. So as he approached Jesus and it said Lord my servant I would love that you would kill him and he says okay take me to a notice Jesus interrupted The centurions Plea with the statement of acceptance. And the desire to go serve. I will go with you and he says no lower than a necessary. Just say the word and my servant will be healed. So we know what I I kind of discern from this this this moment of isolation and where we look at the unlikely one of God and protein the elected one of God, the one guy that called to be the Redemptive presents that there's still a power struggle happening. But God quickly homes in on the focus of the leadership of the the family of Israel in the richest leader now thinking his command still mean something come with me and go to my house as if Jesus is at his whim at his beck and call but notice the father doesn't fail to do the favor. The Savior steel is willing to serve because he says come and lay your hands on her that she be may be healed and we'll leave notice to separate please he wants her physical ailment taken care of, but he's asking for more than just the physical to be done. Not that that's what that verse tells me in the word study. It talks about. Yes. He wanted a physical Deliverance, but he's also asking for a spiritual wholeness as well. He wants something for his daughter that he might not even desire for himself. I know that they like today as we honor mothers as we pause because world put a date on the calendar and give them what they should be due every day because God honors Mother's constant. Although he is a heavenly father. He still has a desire for Earthly mothers to be recognized for their benefit. There is no us without them that they're in tune with God in a way that no masculine presence will ever Embrace their involved in the production and creation of life. God uses them to incubate the souls and provide protection and sustenance for that young life earlier that baby knows nothing but with the mother gives it That that baby knows no other place to go for resource for what's required for protection for rescue when the baby is in distress. The host is in distress is the baby moves the hostess moved. It's probably the closest thing we'll look at it that time of intimacy that guy has with us that a mother shares with their child cuz even before the child knows the world the mother knows a child. And that's an intimate relationship that no father will be able to visit y'all will be Father's Day in June, but it's a different day. Two fears we get ties and in Cologne but mother's get a declaration that they are the child's everything and no matter how dysfunctional mother's presence. If you really came to serve if he really recognize his position maybe he recognized his power but I don't know if his prominence jump right into your harnesses for you, but it's coming but Jesus understands to this progress is necessary for the progression of the unity of the entire family. Not just a virus that needs Jesus not just his daughter is in a state of distress, but I see something else and it kind of gives us to a second point point yesterday. How is fine Jesus he makes his request and now Jesus has accepted it. He's ready says the first 24 since oh, Jesus went with him and the great multitude following him and throwing him when I look at the second point is jumps out at verse 25. It says there is now a certain woman had a flow of blood for 12 years. What is point to say to us give you a look at that as we look over it that second Point not only does yahaira is fine Jesus. But I notice to there there's a daughter in distress. Two hairs one of his daughter healed he came for her, but there's a second daughter in distress. In Ennis the woman with the issue. a blood Yeah, I know. It's simple we could just jump right there and start talking about your hair has his request, but that's not really where Jesus Is In This Moment. The verses that you started on that progression. That the news the Renown of him being present of God now and then there's something celebrity always hampers the spiritual progress of the Savior soon as people here there's power presence. There's a miracle worker in their missed. They start to seek him out for personal things that the nature of the descriptive words used to describe. This crowd that has surround the Savior does a lot about their motivation. It says they thronged him. They followed in the throng. Why are they falling in? Why is it a following in a throng? It's because they want what they want. They hear power of provision is present and they're bringing their needs their trying to get close enough to get what they can get from him. Maybe he's brought more fish sandwiches. Maybe he's ready to walk on water for us again. Maybe I got a sore shoulder if I could just brush up against and I'll be fine. I don't even part of his Doctrine only in part of the all of the sermon in I don't want any part of the service. I'm definitely not going to take up your cross and follow him, but but I can be a fan and you know what the faithful are not be fans. We are not and it's just a derivative of the word Fanatic in Jesus aren't looking for this isn't looking for Fanatics. He's looking for faithful faithful disciples faithful disciples are caught up in Celebrity. We all Jesus just to perform. I hope you're not showing up at church or this worship or even online just because you need something from the Lord. That's what fans do they need an autograph. They need a picture. They they want to be seen as prominent because they were closed or in proximity to a celebrity. You know what you can be as close to Jesus as you need, but unless your motives are sincere there is Nothing sustainable, you're getting from him. You can close enough to watch him do for others, but they'll never be anything done for you. How do I know that because if I move forward in Scripture, it gives me a look at what happens when sincerity is present and you're seeking Jesus out because the crowds there and throwing it means they are putting their full weight that they are pressing with all their energy and strength are moving rapidly to get as close to him as possible. Thank God for the disciples. They look like this would be the Beatles coming to town. This would be your favorite artist on his way to a concert in the place where he's in Spain has grown to a Harold pitch. Like everybody wants to see him. Everybody wants to be around there. There's the disciples the ones that Jesus called probably surrounding him trying to Encompass him and yahaira that they move on their Journey, but they're finding the progress hard to navigate if I can pause parenthetically here in just talk for a second and say sometimes it's not Jesus who delayed But the crowd who distracts the progress of the Savior and I'm saying they're not distracted because it's intentional because nothing can stop with Jesus purposes, but I do believe sometimes I personal issues Jesus from his progression towards the spiritual endeavors. And that's us when we see Jesus we go personal we really care little about the public needs. We just want what we want. They just being old way in church. I don't know. Maybe it is not this church. Y'all are good church. I just thought about some other churches that some other places that when they gather especially at the time of the altar when it when the word commissions and commands us to Bear one another's burdens. They're so busy laying out their needs list. Did they forget to pray for anybody else? And where they are for what we want, where's there for what we needed and for the most part you can always tell because once God delivers on those promises one guy once God does what they need him to do and I'm going to say God is full knowing who will stay and who will go there's an odd vacancy when people when they get only what they want they get gone. So just tell me the crowd hadn't got anything they want yet. They're still pushing this still but they are keeping the sincere away from the Savior cuz he seeking celebrity is not sincere just cuz you want to be close to somebody famous. Don't mean that that you should be accounted faithful. It's a lot of people in church. Just want to be close to fame. Fame of the church Fame in the pasture Fame of the place. It might be prominent in might have held a prominent place in the city. I don't know why people go to church there a lot of different reasons, but the real reason to be there is because you need to be closer to disable. Closer for him to use you not just for you to use him. More intimate so that he can in encounter you and you can encounter him and you can really discover the purpose that pleases him the most that's you being used to serve in his glory be magnified for his name being elevated for his purpose to be further. And is there pushing as they're throwing in the Bible says there's a woman Who's been bleeding for 12 years? Theologians study work through the narrative and even looking through the synoptic gospels kind of estimate that the age of Jay hires. His daughter was probably 12. Quilted 13 the age before they reach their spiritual maturity, but noticed a woman's been bleeding for the same amount of years. For the same years of a life of that young lady the daughter of the hijras. This Jordan This daughter of Jehovah has been struggling with an illness that illness is interesting to she's she's bleeding demonstration of this woman has become to the point that's causing her Med is jeopardizing. Her medical will be the flow won't stop. It will be hemophiliacs someone who can I control the bill the the bleeding and you know, the things that they give us in modern medicine they give us these clotting agents to stop the blood flow and I want to say this that by her own witness her own testimony before she looks for the miraculous. She sought out the medicinal doctors are God's miracles to the guy didn't ask you to put total faith in medicine, but then there's some competency they say God can use medical professionals as well. But here if Alliance if you prefer Alliance and Allegiance is full of giving the medicine. I got bad news for you. It'll fail you. You know, they don't call him their fact Physicians aren't just necessarily skilled at their profession. They call him practices. Because you're practicing. If you try to figure out if that works and you might become something that they use in in fame or fatality cuz when you died and now they learn don't don't do that that that didn't work. And this woman has suffered at the hands of medical professionals. They took her resources and gave her no Wellness. They took her energy her hope her her trust and then they provided nothing of substance to it. And this is a reminder for us as well that anything outside of God that we have faith in anything outside of him that we are trusting to do what only he is capable of doing here Eddie to be disappointed be ready to be destitute. Be ready to be in Despair and that's where she was this woman named so that we might join in in with her. Not declared like Jahara snow. He is a definitive leader of the temple. He is given a proper name. I hear she's left almost Anonymous so that where is one specifically leaves this could be anybody that's bleed that bleeds there could be any of us with an illness or condition or situation out of our control hampering our progress keeping us from Community keeping us from being connected. This woman would have been isolated. But this woman would have been exiled or relegated to a place of begging. Of notating just like lepers that she was unclean because anybody around her would become ceremoniously and religiously unclean it's her ailment but it is hurting the whole Community has got the power to become a problem from everyone. She Encounters in before you start this a man that's rough on women. You do know some of your diseases have Community destruction in line to those ways you heal to send those things that you frequently give over to to the temptation of do you think your secret actions don't have a public? How come the more send invades us the more it makes us sick. It separates us from our community. We become the plague on other people it reflects our personality of withdrawals our willingness our purpose. It just it is a destruction to Unity and if it'll do that for the public, can you imagine what it does for the family? The woman represented the ability to procreate the fruit from this the Bounty of God blessing through the womb of a woman into the number of all those in humanity, but this woman bleed if she has an ailment that keeps her not only being married, but she can't reproduce. She cannot sustain life in her womb and it's something to be the thing that produces life would be Barren of it. The thing where life is birth, but it's not able to be about its purpose before you start saying I'm glad I'm a man you can be without fruitfulness also and not even have a room when you are off purpose. For the things of God when you're not fulfilling and satisfying his desire to use you brother mail is Mother's Day. But let me give a father's word of caution. Let me give a man's messages. Well, the God expects fruitfulness out of you to God expects reproduction out of you to Matthew 28 19 and 22 players go into all the world and Make Disciples of all of us to create rebirth to create new believed to be with to partner with people and don't just make them do what you do make them know him like, you know him Be with them in their lives, but I issues keep us from those instrumental works of purpose in our lives are diseases destroy the discipleship potential and all of us and seeing is a sickness just as serious as this constant Hemorrhage this certain woman has she is a daughter in distress. But she can't get to Jesus because of the press celebrity keeps the sick from the Savior celebrities Seekers become I issue this morning. but good news is the Jesus is still progressing but its purpose purpose for progression. But when you hear you get instruction you get inside you get intimacy. She heard about Jesus. She came I love this behind him in the crowd and touch His Garment.

She just needed to be close enough to connect. She just needed to be. as near to him as to put a point of contact between what she believed and what he was capable of that's that's the Great Gulf between anything we get from the savior. He myth meets our faith with his faithfulness. But you've got to close the gap. He's able to do exceedingly more than you can hope or imagine. But are you willing? At that kind of rush me to my third point because we're going to break this in the two. We don't want to visit you hire as his daughter yet to we deal with Israel's daughter because she represents everything about the ones in this Israelite family. Chichi represents and is the epitome of all the rest of the restorative work that God is requiring from his people cuz of his people can get back to a place of productivity the world would be better. That's an old Covenant Old Testament. Deuteronomy says when you do well Not only when you honor me and you follow my commands to Deuteronomy. Kermit says I will not only bless you, but I'll bless other nations with you when you do poorly when you disobey and seek out the other things not only will you be punished but the world around you be telling us to and we've been going through it for a minute. She represents the hope we have done that when his people get back to wholeness we can get back to wholeness. That's a promise that he came for his own first and he's in visiting here. Now letting them know that is real. I'm here to heal your wounds to take care of those hurts and harms to cleanse you of that that unceremonious you're seeing is made you unfit to be in the presence of your God, but I came to wash you so you can have access to gain in the Bible said she got close enough for 27 that she can touch His Garment verse 28 says would you say if I may only touch I shall be made well, New King James uses the word. Well, we see hole in another issue but no don't read into it. Well is where she is. She's got a physical condition that she needs Jesus to produce and that might seem selfish, but it's sincere. She saw everything else. She's at a place now. She's ready to release. She's willing to let go of everything that almost takes us to out there for me. We see the doubt in distress. We saw jaehaerys find Jesus. But what's the what's the third thing we see here? Thursday we see is a woman is willing. She's ready now willing to do what? That's kind of what I throw out at you willing to do. I don't know if we've ever been in that. Are you at a point where you are ultimately willing? And I mean all of us want stuff, but are you at the point of willingly wanting it? That means are you willing to do whatever it takes to get what you want. Are you willing to leave? Whatever you got to leave to get what you desire the most but let me see what needs to happen first first. You got to be separated from any other. Hope in any other thing. Cuz if you come as Jesus being just another thing and you're just willing to try to get to him you're not going to give the kind of effort you need real willingness is in an exercise in desperation. It's what most of the Pariah of our society generation take advantage of they find those who are desperate and willing to do anything. And the crazy things people do to the Willy when when you've been rejected by every other source of help, you'll sit up at 2 a.m. And by Spring Water. Thinking it'll satisfy your need. Somebody will send you a vial of water you your digest that cuz when you're willing you actually believe what's in that too is going to take care of whatever is in you. Dreaming wilinet con yourself into thinking that you drink it and it actually made a difference in your circumstances or situation. Here's what bothers the mind about some human sending you a tube of water. How can they put value in virtue in something that they didn't create? So you took someone else's creation and you and doubt it with power. For you to do what it won't do for anybody else like somebody could go to that spring without you and they get nothing but because you were sending it when you're willing to let go of all logic. That spring water was healing here. I need to send it to me for $100. Tell me what a spring is. I don't drink right out of it. No, no, but you know, I'm so desperate that I'll send you that money to get that. That unheard-of unheralded tour and that's sad because the willing and always taken advantage of but that's okay. I would rather be willing ready for anyting in to be resistant missing the only thing cuz as long as I got hoping something other than Jesus, I'm not ready to encounter him. As long as there's a hope for any other thing to provide Jesus is not even allowing me close enough. Thank God for the crowd here because the crowd it purifies the insincere from the sincere. Cuz if I'm just casual the crowd is enough to make me stop. If I'm casually and need that's too much work pushing through all those people and then I got to get all the way past the disciples and then I get got to get close enough to get a hand on him. And if I'm really thinking it's just what he can provide. I can't just touch any part of him. I got to be right in his face. I got to get right to his hand. He's got a little delivered it deliberately at me and deeply in me not on her you're not at a point.
