Intro: there are some many different types of families today. There are 3 K/W LESSONS I want to show about families. I want to focus on the imperfect one and how this family and one person overcame personal and family issues.

I. The Family and its history vs 1-2

A. Exposition

1. The History of issues from the beginning

2. Why were their issues with his brothers?

3. Why did he only give a report of his half-brothers and not his full brother?

B. Application

1. Is the History of your Family dark?

2. Do you have issues with your family?

II. Family and the favorite vs 3-4

A. Exposition

1. Why would Jacob/Israel show favoritism to one child?

2. How did this effect the other siblings?

B. Application

1. Is showing favoritism wise?

2. How should we handle favoritism?

A comedian named William lee Martin talked about favorites in their children. He said that all parents have a favorite and if you are wondering if it is you… well it’s not!!!

III. Family and the Dreams vs 5-11

A. Exposition

1. Was Joseph being arrogant or just a 17 yrs. old kid?

2. What did the dreams mean?

3. Was Joseph the chosen one to lead?

B. Application

1. Are we going to let our family dictate our situation?

2. Are we going to blame our problems, because of who our families are?

3. Why would God use imperfect families to further his work?

4. Are we chosen by God?

Conclusion: We are all part of being misfits, we feel like we are forgotten and even left out. Sometimes it seems we have been given a raw deal, but God had a purpose for us and because of his Grace we are saved. But it’s his Grace that’s the key to the whole thing.
