Hello again and thank you for joining me for our 194th episode of Kids Bible Minute. I’m your host Landon Rowell and also I’m the preacher for the church of Christ here in Ramona, OK. Thank you for taking time out of your day today to study God’s precious Word with me. I would like to also thank the Oologah church of Christ for making this program possible. I hope you have your Bible ready so that when I mention a Bible verse you can pause this podcast, open your Bible to that scripture and see it for yourself. Now, typically when you unpause the podcast I will read the verse out loud so that you can simply follow along with me but in case I don't you have now read each verse for yourself. If you are new to our study, first I want to say thank you for studying with us and secondly I want to let you know that you can reach all archived or past episodes easily at ramonacofc.com in the podcast section where there is a direct link to Kids Bible Minute past episodes. As you guys know we have been studying in the book of Revelation and find ourselves now at Revelation chapter 8. In this chapter we have the ending of the seven seals and the beginning of the seven trumpets. Remember the seven seals were a reminder and warning of what righteousness brings. Living godly lives will cause persecution (2 Timothy 3:12) but God reminded them in chapter seven that He would be with them and that they would be avenged. Chapters 8-20 are that avenging taking place, but just like Job found out God always gives His creation a chance to repent. These seven trumpets are just that a warning to Rome to repent of evil against His people, to stop letting Satan be their puppet master or face the consequences. Keep that in mind over this “trumpet” section in chapters 8-11. So, in Revelation 8:1-5 we see the Lamb open the seventh seal and silence take place as a sign of respect for God (Habbakuk 2:20) and God’s way of a sort of “drum role” before the judgment commences. It is clear this judgment is a response to the martyrs & persecuted Christians cries or prayers for help. The throwing of fire on earth is oft used symbolism of God’s coming judgment on the earth (Ezekiel 10:2). In verses 6-13 we see the severity of God’s discipline of Rome. 1/3 of all the land, ocean, freshwater, and heavenly bodies are destroyed. This obviously didn’t happen miraculously but providentially by way of natural disasters. This was a call for Rome to repent but unfortunately they don’t. Let’s look at Revelation 9:20.
Revelation 9:20 ESV
20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk,
As Peter explained in 2 Peter 3:9 God waits for everyone to repent that will repent, but like most, like with the Roman Empire, people don’t and God’s patience only last so long.
Well, that concludes this Bible study for today. As always, I want to thank you for studying God's precious Word with me and I want to encourage you to continue to study God's Word every day.
