(Personal Comments)
I. Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 KJV 1900
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
II. Introduction:
In this time when we feel such heartache, pain, and loss,..... the Scriptures.... the word of God… offers us so much comfort, encouragement, and victory.
It seems that, if we allow it to be a time of sadness then that is what it will be… but as christians.. as those that know the word of God.. we know that we are not to sorrow as those that have no hope.. we know that this is a time to rejoice..
“than those who “have no hope.”
Two things to keep in mind:
a. Our Mourning Is Natural.... Paul is not saying that we should not be sad when our loved ones die.... Psalm 116:15 is often translated, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” The Hebrew word for “precious” refers often to precious stones or possessions; it can also be translated “costly, expensive.”… The Lord does His work on earth through His people... so doesn’t it make sense that their death is costly?… He knows our loss because He experiences it with us!.....
Do you remember the story about Lazarus’ death? Jesus knew that He would raise Lazarus from the dead (John 11:4), but when he saw the sad faces, approached the sealed tomb, and felt the loss of a loved one,.....the grief…the pain.. ..... the bible says.... Jesus wept (John 11:35).
thats why when the bible says in
Hebrews 4:15–16 KJV 1900
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
we know.. and are reasured.. that God knows.... he knows how we feel...
We know that departed believers will be resurrected......... but being apart from them causes natural pain and grief.
b. Our Rejoicing Is Supernatural.....
Paul explains that we are to react differently than those who have no hope.... Although we… cry..... mourn and grieve...the Lord is with us through it all.
As believers, we have comfort and hope in the future… we know that believers are now with the Lord..
because the bible says.. the word of God says.....
2 Corinthians 5:8 KJV 1900
8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
in...
Revelation 14:13 KJV 1900
13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
III.
it’s the true hope that only Christians have.......That causes us to pause in our grief .. .. and sadness .... and look toward… and anticipate the future:
a. When Christ returns, ...... when Jesus returns..... He will bring the deceased believers with Him!..... While we grieve their loss,......surely they rejoice and anticipate the day when they will be the first to see the resurrected Christ return for His people.
b. The Triumphant Return of Christ (v. 16).
We are told that “the Lord himself … that God himself..... that Jesus.....shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first” (v. 16).
When Christ comes for the second time, it will not be in a manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes.... announced by a single star to wise men or by an angel to shepherds;.......... nor will he come down the street in a cadaliac … surrounded by men in black suits......but He will come wrapped in glory and splendor with an earthshaking shout of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God Himself!..... And who will be the first to see these things? The dead in Christ.
. Paul said ...., “Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (v. 18). As we leave today, let’s remind each other in our grief that Uncle Donald.... will be of the first to see the magnificent return of the Savior, Jesus Christ; ...
we will one day see our husband.... father.. brother.... uncle… cusoin … friend..... again, together in the clouds.
as I close the bible says ..
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted” (Matt. 5:4)...
the great poet Mayo Angelo penned a statement that said..
people my forget what you said
people may forget what you did...
but people will never forget the way you made them feel...
family ..
when the the burden gets a little heavy… a tears begin the flow.. look toward heaven because God will be your strength..
and then remember… picture how our crazy uncles were on the roof of grannys house and one sat there ..watched and laugh as thee other slide down off...
God Bless...
