HOOK

After healing the man who was invalid for 38 years— after making important declarations about His authority being the Son of God— after dealing with the very important matter about judgment
He switched his talk about His witness— Let’s resume taking it from verse 31 [I divided this section for our 2-day study
The Bible is divided into books, chapters, section and verses— this is not how it was in the original scrolls, but it was done through generations of translations to enable us to better scrutinize the Word using those references— making it easier for us to jump back and forth faster
One thing that you should not do is to develop a habit of picking out a verse — and understanding its context without considering the surrounding verses [before and after]
You will easily missed what the passage really mean when you do that— more often than not, you will take the verse out of context
In our passage today I’ll show you some verses that if you take them as it is without leaning on the section, chapter or book that it is attached to— you will misunderstand the Word
There are some verses that stands on itself— but the majority of the Scriptures do not— so be very careful always [sharing one liner passages could send a wrong message to your readers]
Let’s begin— if you’re on John 5:31 TYPE amen!

BOOK

John 5:31–37 NLT
31 “If I were to testify on my own behalf, my testimony would not be valid. 32 But someone else is also testifying about me, and I assure you that everything he says about me is true. 33 In fact, you sent investigators to listen to John the Baptist, and his testimony about me was true. 34 Of course, I have no need of human witnesses, but I say these things so you might be saved. 35 John was like a burning and shining lamp, and you were excited for a while about his message. 36 But I have a greater witness than John—my teachings and my miracles. The Father gave me these works to accomplish, and they prove that he sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has testified about me himself. You have never heard his voice or seen him face to face,

LOOK

MY TESTIMONY WOULD NOT BE VALID
Like in our modern day courts— two witnesses are required to be valid— Biblical law requires the same [DEUTERONOMY 17:6, 19:15]
BUT SOMEONE ELSE IS ALSO TESTIFYING ABOUT ME
He was referring to John the baptist [JOHN 1:29]
I HAVE NO NEED FOR HUMAN WITNESSES
This is one example of what I told you earlier— if you just read this and stop— what will you think Jesus mean when He said, “I have no need for human witnesses”?— it will be contradict with what he said as written in [ACTS 1:8]
You must continue with the sentence and see the verses before and after— Jesus continued saying, “but I say these things so you might be saved.”
Witnessing is needed for salvation!
I HAVE A GREATER WITNESS THAN JOHN
Jesus did many things that John didn’t because he couldn’t! — John himself confirmed this [JOHN 1:30]
THEY PROVE THAT HE SENT ME
What proves that the Father sent His Son Jesus?— Hi works— His teachings, His miracles ++
THE FATHER WHO SENT ME HAS TESTIFIED ABOUT ME
When John baptized Jesus a voice from heaven came down— [MATTHEW 3:16-17]
This was also confirmed and recorded by Mark [MARK 1:9-11] and Luke [LUKE 3:21-22]
YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD HIS VOICE OR SEEN HIM FACE TO FACE
The current generation of God’s people knew God only through tradition and teaching of their ancestors, not their own experience— Jesus was not referring to Moses who had a direct encounter with God at the burning bush [EXODUS 3:4-6] and at mount Sinai [EXODUS 19]
