I love scripture - so much to chose from
As a kid in vbs - John 11:35 - Jesus wept
As a teen - John 3:16 - For God so loved...
The verse that has driven and shaped most of my adult life
A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.
Life giving
This verse has always popped in my head when needed
1st time - in a fox hole in the middle of a dessert - alarms going off - wondering if I would make it home - I have given you life
2nd time - was in youth ministry when we had a suicide in our town - they need to hear about life - the thief is killing them
3rd time - calling us to plant a church if Four Corners - people are just existing - they need to experience abundant life
There are 3 things out of theses 24 words that has changed everything with me and will hopefully encourage and challenge you

Two Types of People
A thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.

Come to give life.... before Christ there is none
Those that are alive - the walking dead
Think about it we have zombies
They don’t know
In Christ alive - outside of Christ dead
And when you were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made you alive with him and forgave us all our trespasses.

The thief and the Shepherd
The thief - cares only to steal, kill, detroy
Voice of fear and anxiety, Voice of pride and lies you can do it yourself, The voice that says if you rich enough, strong enough, powerful enough -
the Shepherd - leads us to life and meaning - purpose and peace
My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.
Two Voices to Follow
We can do things our way or God’s way
Our way leads to - bondage and death
God’s way leads to - freedom and life
Even the bad brings life
Life is More Than Just Living

Abundant life - Greek perrissos - beyond, extraordinary
More than just living - going through the motions
It is purpose and meaning - adventurous even
Friend - Not living life on the edge - taken up space
Living beyond ourselves
and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
