“Jehovah-Jireh” Genesis 22:1-19; Hebrews 11:8-12; Hebrews 11:17-19 Pastor Erik J. Ferguson Sermon Idea: Abraham’s faith was strong enough that he remained hopeful, even when things looked hopeless. Introduction: Abraham’s lessons: (1) Abraham learned that God is bigger than any circumstance we’ll ever face. (2) Abraham learned that God can be counted on. Body: I. Abraham was a man of great faith (Genesis 22:5; Hebrews 11:8-12; Hebrews 11:17-19). A. Abraham possessed a simple child-like faith. B. Abraham was a man of faith, because his love for God’s wasn’t based on performance. C. Abraham was a man of great faith, because he reasoned God could raise his son, Isaac, from the dead. II. Isaac was a submissive participant (Genesis 22:9). A. Isaac was a submissive participant, because he was strong enough to resist, and fast enough to flee. B. Isaac was a submissive participant, because Abraham lived his faith. C. Isaac was a “type” of Christ--John 3:16; Matthew 26:39. III. God mercifully provided a substitute (Genesis 22:13). --God also mercifully provided a substitute for us--Romans 3:22b-24; Romans 6:23. Take Home Reminder: When trials come my way, and they will come, I must remember Jesus’ promise in Matthew 28:20b, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
