Title: “Walk This Way” Text: Rom. 8:14-16 “ For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[f] And by him we cry, “Abba,[g] Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Trans: We were created to walk with God…experience His presence…experience His power…We are His Children who should daily experience the supernatural benefits of being heirs of God… Freedom: Spiritual Guidance frees us from boring religion so that we can experience the Supernatural of our Father God. Pentecost: May is the month of Pentecost. >Acts 1:4 & 2…>John 16:7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. “In our day heaven and earth are on tiptoe waiting for the emerging of a Spirit-led, Spirit-intoxicated, Spirit-empowered people. All of creation watches expectantly for the springing up of a disciplined, freely gathered, martyr people who know in this life the life and power of the Kingdom of God. It can happen again!” Richard J. Foster “Celebration of Discipline” 1. We were created to walk with God A. Mankind was created to be in fellowship with God -Adam and Eve walked with God…Enoch walked with God…Noah… -The primary reason God created us was to have a relationship with Him…to walk with Him… -God is love…and love has to be expressed…we are the objects of God’s love… -So, the Father sent His only Son to show us how much He loves us…Supernatural… -And Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be with us…Supernatural… >Ephesians 5:18 says, Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. B. Mankind was created to experience the Supernatural presence of God -We were designed to be in God’s presence and to experience His presence… -That was to be normal, everyday experience… -That it why the Spiritual Discipline of Guidance is so important… Ill: Have you ever been standing in water and been in the presence of 220 voltage? Ill: Pastor Tom Howard…being in his presence was incredible… -We were created in the image of God… -Do you know why there is such a desire to know what is “out there?” +God spoke the “out there” in to being…He created it… -Do you know why we have such a curiosity about the supernatural? +Because we were created in the image of the One who makes a way where there is no way… -Do you know why we have a passion about finding “love?” +Because we were created by the One who is LOVE… -Anything less than what we were created to experience is a huge let down… -Never satisfies… Ill: My sister wanting a dog really bad…my brother would tease her each Christmas saying we got her a dog…it was always a stuffed dog…she was so mad… 2. We were not created to walk alone. A. It’s Boring -Drugs, materialism, pornography, Alcohol, Greed…are all substitutes for the real thing… -Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll… -All created by the devil to take the place of walking with God…Substitutes… -A “substitute” is a “stand in, a proxy…not the real thing…best thing next to the real thing… >Galatians 5:21 21 It is obvious what kind of life develops out of trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisfied wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small-minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. I could go on. (MSG) -That verse is the “do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery verse…>Eph. 5:8 -Trying to live life without experiencing what you were created to experience is horrible!!! -Selfishness is simply seeking to satisfy your own wants…You can’t… -You and I were created to experience much more than we can create!!!!!! B. It’s Destructive -Look at what trying to substitute the supernatural experience of walk in the Spirit with being drunk on selfishness has done… -The destruction of families… -The Suicide rates have increased… -The premature deaths of those who promoted this substitute lifestyle… 3. We were created to walk in the Spirit A. Intoxicated in the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23 (MSG) 22-23 But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. -Under the influence of the Holy Spirit…Intoxicating… -Intoxication Def. 2: emotionally excited, elated, or exhilarated (as by great joy) B. Producing the Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-24 (NIV) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.  -This is what we were created to experience… -God created us to experience the BEST…love…relationships…joy…peace… -Anything less than the best will never satisfy because its just a substitute for the real thing…
