Bethel Baptist Church, Laramie, WY Sunday, May 2, 2020 Pastor Nathan Sehi Moses is given a tremendous and burdensome task in Ex 3:7-10. But Moses does not know or fully understand the LORD. In this text, God gives him 2 names that are meant to overcome his fear and empower him to do God’s will. 4) What do these names teach Moses? (a) The LORD is the self-sufficient one. (b) The LORD is the creator and sustainer. (c) The LORD is unchanging (Immutable) (d) The LORD is eternal. 5) What does God require of Moses in response? Exodus 3:13-22 – I Don’t Know Your Name: How God answers the fear of Moses. The nature of God should empower us to follow His Will. (a) To obey the call to go and deliver Israel. (Exodus 3:15-18) (b) To trust God’s incredible omniscience and sovereignty. (Exodus 3:19-22) Moses 2nd Fear: I don’t know your name. (Exodus 3:13-15) God’s Answer: I am who I am. 1) What does it mean - I am who I am? Dutch theologian Herman Bavinck (1854–1921) wrote, “God is that which he calls himself, and he calls himself that which he is.” Who is God? God is who he is, and that’s all there is to it... 2) How is this related to the name - LORD (Yahweh)? Yahweh is essentially a noun whose root is - I am. Application: a) Write down - What has God called ________________to do? b) Then list – Write down as many specific things in your life God has willed you to do. c) Then consider – How does God’s nature revealed in his names empower you to do His will? Response: a) Consider the names LORD/Jehovah (Yahweh) and “I am who I am”. In what ways do these names reveal your need to grow in your faith? 3) How is this related to the burning bush? If you’re struggling to believe or understand what it means that I am who I am, then let the visual picture, the burning bush, teach what it means that He is Yahweh, I am who I am. b) What specific steps in your life do you need to take to live out a faith who is empowered by the names of God?
