Let’s Talk - A Prayer Conversation
A Series focused on prayer
How we should view prayer & how we pray
We don’t serve prayer, Prayer should serve us
Lords Prayer is a Template
Matthew 6:9–13 NIV
9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’
Not something to repeat but a template to follow
The Template
Character; Kingdom; Provision; Forgiveness; Guidance; Deliverance

Why?

Prayer Isn’t Our Priority

Our Leadership hasn’t made prayer a priority
I take the blame
This isn’t to call the church out in anger
This is a call for us to wake up
A wake-up call out of love and the finger starts pointing at me
I know people in this church pray
But we don’t focus on praying as church
Afraid to pray in public
We don’t know what to say
Will we say the wrong thing
Will we be judged for how we pray

The Early Church Prayed About Everything

They prayed when they met together
Acts 1:14 NIV
14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
They were all devoted to prayer
Acts 2:42–47 NIV
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Peter & John Released from the Sanhedrin
Acts 4:23–24 NIV
23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.
Peters Release From Prison Under Herod
Acts 12:12 NIV
12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying.
Acts 1:14 NIV
14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
Acts 13:2–3 NIV
2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
They prayed during persecution
Acts 12:5 NIV
5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
They prayed for healing
Acts 28:7–8 NIV
7 There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days. 8 His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him.
