Each of us must take this time to find our mission and purpose in God. We have become modern day monks.

1 Samuel 21:14–22:2 (NET)
21:14 Achish said to his servants, “Look at this madman! Why did you bring him to me?
21:15 Do I have a shortage of fools, that you have brought me this man to display his insanity in front of me? Should this man enter my house?”
22:1 So David left there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and the rest of his father’s family learned about it, they went down there to him.
22:2 All those who were in trouble or owed someone money or were discontented gathered around him, and he became their leader. He had about four hundred men with him.

ACHISH. The king of Gath (called Abimelech in the title of Ps. 34) with whom David lived incognito when fleeing from Saul and from whom he escaped by pretending to be mad (1 Sa. 21:10–15). The second time David went for refuge in Gath, Achish gave him the town of *ZIKLAG on his border with Israel (1 Sa. 27). He appointed David as his bodyguard in a battle against Israel (1 Sa. 28:1–2), but the other Philistines would not have David fight with them (1 Sa. 29). Achish continued as king into the reign of Solomon (1 Ki. 2:39–40).

Achish became the substitute king of David
David was rejected by Saul but not by God.
Our challenge during this time of seclusion, is not to find other gods or the gods of this world
2 Corinthians 4:3–4 NET
3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing, 4 among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of those who do not believe so they would not see the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God.
We are in a battle to hear God’s voice and to clearly see his image. The need for Jesus’ appearance is we needed to see God. We are visual creatures.

We become emotional and angry
The image of Jesus removes the anger because he is demonstrating the characteristics of God the Father
John 5:19 NKJV
19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
DOWNTIME SHOULD BE CONSIDERED GOD TIME
Exodus 34:29–30 NKJV
Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the Testimony were in Moses’ hand when he came down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him. So when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.
Spending time with God is evident, it leaves a mark.
Galatians 1:15–18 NKJV
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, 16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. 18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days.
We need time to prepare:
For the call (Internalizing what God is saying to us specifically)
Luke 1:30–32 NKJV
30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
Mary had to reconcile the call in regard to what was happening inside of her
The work (Envisioning and making the proper allowances)
Genesis 6:13–14 NKJV
13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.
Noah had to capture the vision of an ark in addition to rain, then make the proper allowances to make the call of God come alive in him.
Creating alliances (Building the relationships that will benefit our specific call)
Jesus gathers his disciples

Simon the Zealot. One of Jesus’ disciples (Luke 6:15; Acts 1:13); also known as Simon the Canaanean in Matthew 10:4 and Mark 3:18.

Establish a hot line (Strengthen and dedicate our conversation with God)
1 Samuel 21:15 NKJV
15 Have I need of madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?”
Did Achish know that David was acting?
