Yesterday we learned about the verser appeared in the KJV that do not appear in the NIV and other new translations— we learned that the reason behind why the Committee in Bible Translations (CBT) they placed those verses as footnotes is due to the compelling reason that the older the manuscripts, the more reliable they are
Therefore, translations such as the NIV actually reflect better Bible scholarship than was available in 1611 when the KJV was published
The verses or phrases that appeared in the KJV, but have been “omitted” in most trusted translations today, are not found in the oldest and most reliable manuscript
It is important and comforting to note that no doctrines of the Christian faith are affected by differences between the KJV and translations such as the NIV that follow more reliable sources

Let’s continue with the story of the healing at the pool by picking it up from where we left off yesterday— Jesus asked the invalid man, “do you want to get well?”
Turn you Bible to chapter 5.. let’s begin at verse 7

7 “I can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” 8 Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” 9 Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath, 10 so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured, “You can’t work on the Sabbath! The law doesn’t allow you to carry that sleeping mat!” 11 But he replied, “The man who healed me told me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’ ” 12 “Who said such a thing as that?” they demanded. 13 The man didn’t know, for Jesus had disappeared into the crowd. 14 But afterward Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, “Now you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to you.” 15 Then the man went and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had healed him.

I CAN’T SIR, THE SICK MAN SAID
Notice the answer to the question— Jesus’ question is a “yes or no” question— but the man turned it around and made it be about him— what he can or cannot do!
•Sometimes we’re hesitant to pray for those who are sick— becaue we think about what we cannot do— focus not on what you cannot do, but on what Jesus can do!
STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT AND WALK
Truly! There is healing power in the words of Jesus!
THE LAW DOESN’T ALLOW YOU TO CARRY THAT SLEEPING MAT
Jesus values Life ore than Law
An example here that we must not emulate is the example of the Pharisees— they looked at the carrying and not the healing! The negative not the positive!
Let me show you why He can heal on a sabbath— this is also written in Matthew 12:8
27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
THE MAN DIDN’T KNOW, FOR JESUS DISAPPEARED INTO THE CROWD
An important principle may be learned here— that Jesus can if he wills it to heal even people who doesn’t know Him— apparently this invalid man is not a believer, he doesn’t even know Jesus
STOP SINNING, OR SOMETHING EVEN WORSE MAY HAPPEN TO YOU
After healing, stop sinning! You are spiritually healed if not physically, so stop sinning!
6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

IT’S NOT ABOUT WHAT I CANNOT DO, BUT ABOUT WHAT JESUS CAN

AFTER HEALING, STOP SINNING
