What do you think of when you hear the word “holy”?

Pray and Read the text.

Holiness, according to Peter, is two things.

1. Holiness is an Action

It is all in how we act. What we think and feel will flow over into our actions. So to be act is to act holy.

2. Holiness is also Discipline.

We are to conduct ourselves in a way that God has commanded us to act. We are not to be conformed to this world or act as those who do not know God act.
Now we live in this world, Peter called it a time of exile, because our home is in heaven, but we live here. We are a part of God’s creation on Earth, but we are so much more than that.
Jesus bought us for a pretty high price, his life, not with silver or gold or other things of this world. So we belong to God.
There is the difference. Our actions should represent Jesus who we have put all of our faith, hope and love towards. That is holiness. We are dedicated to God, consecrated to God and only God. Belonging to God. And if we belong to God than, like Christ, we must be spotless, clean and pure. We can’t be clean on our own. We must devote ourselves to God, and through the love and power of the Holy Spirit, live out His commands.
So what does this Holy Action and Discipline look like?
verse 22: Love! Love God as God loves you, Love one Another “deeply from the heart”. It must be deeper then your mind, your feelings and emotions. But with all your heart and soul. Remember the Great Commandment that Jesus gave us, or was quoted by the lawyer in the gospels? That comes from LEviticus. As a matter of fact, the saying “Be Holy as Your Father in Heaven is Holy comes from multiple places in Leviticus, chapter 20 and chapter 11.
But why? WHy must we love with our souls, our very life force?
Our bodies, our brains will all perish. Like the grass and flowers fade over time. But our souls, that which is deep within us, will live forever.
Peter quotes Isaiah (40:6-8). We will perish but the Word of God remains forever. From Isaiah, this means the commands of God the precepts that we are to live by that are in the law and prophets that we have in the Holy Bible. Peter also adds the New Testament, which is the Good News of Jesus Christ that was proclaimed to the whole world.

So in essence, Holiness is a call to live fully into God's call on your life; to love Him with all that you have, give Him all that you have, and to live as He created you to live. When you plant yourself into Jesus, you will never perish but grow and blossom forever.

When you know God, you should desire to know Him more. The more you know God, the more your life is set apart from the world and the more you become like Him. Who do you become but like the Word of God, Jesus and formed by those words, commands, laws and covenant made with God.
Be planted in God so that you will never fade or wither away. God constantly gives you what you need, He is your life. You will face troubles and trials in life, but God is in control, especially if you give him control over your life.
Think, do I let the problems of this world affect me? Do I try to please others? Do I try to please myself and what I want to see happen?
What is God telling us in every circumstance? Does our will outweigh God's?
We are all called to not only have faith and believe in God, but to go deeper. We are called to not let this world conform us but be transformed by God.
