Introduction

 John’s vision of Christ--1:12-16

 7 independent bases (v. 12)--each represents a local church (v. 20)

 Each is autonomous but also responsible to the Lord

 “Lampstands”--each is to bear light (not be light)

 “Golden”--indicates value

 One like the son of man--the idea is one that bears that kind of character

Figurative language

 Conveys literal meaning

 Makes it memorable

 Always taken from the reader’s environment

The description of the Son of Man

 Clothing, v. 13

 The head and hair, v. 14a

 His eyes, v. 14b

 His feet, v. 15a

 His voice, v. 15b

 His right hand, v. 16a

 His mouth, v. 16b

 His countenance, v. 16c
