The author of this Gospel was John the apostle and was written around 80-90 AD in Ephesus!

What was the REASON of this Gospel?

John 20:31 ESV
but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Text John 1:1-5

John 1:1–5 ESV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John obviously wants his audience to have the book of Genesis in their minds while reading this passage.

Genesis 1:3;6;9;11;14; 20;24;26
Genesis 1:3 ESV
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Genesis 1:6 ESV
And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.”
Genesis 1:9 ESV
And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so.
Genesis 1:11 ESV
And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so.
Genesis 1:14 ESV
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years,
Genesis 1:20 ESV
And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.”
Genesis 1:24 ESV
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.
Genesis 1:26 ESV
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

The 1st thing to deal with is the Jesus’ Origins The opening words of the Gospel depict Jesus’ origins in heaven with God before the wold was made. The critical question to answer is where did Jesus comes from?

According to John Jesus come from God John 1:1b

John 1:1b ESV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John wants his readers to understand that at whatever point the creation began, the Word already existed, John was not claiming that the Word was God the Father, But was affirming that the way God the FATHER is DIVINE so was the WORD.

John 1:3 ESV
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Paul’s understanding and that of John are very close when it comes to the DIVINITY of Christ.
1 Corinthians 8:6 ESV
yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
Colossians 1:15–16 ESV
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.
John 1:4
John 1:4 ESV
In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5 ESV
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
