HOOK

When the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was gaining popularity, and more people are being baptized by his disciples— exceeded the number of people baptized by John— Jesus together with His disciples left Jude and went back to Galilee
I’ve shown you the maps yesterday and you saw that Samaria is about 31 miles south of Jerusalem [Capital City of Judah], in between Judah and Galilee
Enroute to Galilee— Jesus and his disciples stopped by Samaria, in a village called Sychar where the well of Jacob is located— Jesus was tired and thirsty, he sat by the well while his disciples went to buy them some food
From the first part of the narrative of Jesus encounter with the Samaritan woman— we learned these principles applicable to our lives today:
The we must avoid confrontation
Those who believed in Jesus Christ must be baptized
And we have seen that Jesus is 100% human and 100% God
Let’s continue with the story— let’s pick it up at verse 7

BOOK

John 4:7–15 NIV
7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” 11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?” 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

LOOK

FOR THE JEWS DO NOT ASSOCIATE WITH SAMARITANS
John 4:9
Why?— At the time of King Jeroboam— the kingdom of Israel were divided [north and south] with Samaria as the capital city of the northern kingdom, and Jerusalem as the capital of Judah— that was the start of their animosity
Later on, after the fall of Isreal to the Assyrians— the king of Assyria brought people to Samaria— they inter-married— they brought in with them their culture, tradition along with their pagan religion— look [2 Kings 17:22)
HE WOULD HAVE GIVEN YOU LIVING WATER
John 4:10
Jesus took that conversation that started over a glass of water as opportunity to teach her spiritual truth— but she didn’t quite ge tit
She said, you have no bucket or whatsoever, where can you get this living water?— she is taking Jesus words literally
When Jesus said “living water”— he actually meant the Holy Spirit— look [John 7:38-39]
BUT WHOEVER DRINKS THE WATER I GIVE THEM WILL NEVER THIRST
John 4:14
Jesus may be alluding to the prophesy of Isaiah [Isaiah 12:3]
SIR GIVE ME THIS WATER SO I WON’T GET THIRSTY
Still she didn’t get it!—

TOOK

I WILL LOVE PEOPLE BEYOND BOUNDARIES
Jesus initiated the interaction with the Samaritan woman despite animosity brought by cultural, traditional and even spiritual belief— [Matthew 5:46-47]
DON’T TAKE LITERALLY, WHAT WAS SAID SPIRITUALLY
Matters that are spiritual must not be taken literal— things spoken spiritually— we must believe faithfully— Remember what Jesus said to Nicodemus in [John 3:12]
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE SEAL OF MY ETERNAL LIFE
Listen in— [Ephesians 1:13-14]
