Thursday is thanksgiving and I can think of a better time in the year to say we need to have an attitude of Thanksgiving. In this time of the year we usually give thanks to God for our home, children, the things that we have (material things), but don't forget the most important thing which is our salvation. Now, this V that we just read tells us that we should not only be giving thanks on thanksgiving, but every day.

     I. Other scriptures. (Psalm 30:4) “Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.”

              A. (Psalm 79:13) “So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations.”

                        1. There's many others...

              B. Having an Attitude of thanksgiving (or Gratitude) should be a life style. We're called by God to be thankful people. There's over 130 times that we are exhorted to be thankful in the Word of God.

                        1. Gratitude will change depression to joy, a frown to a smile, & pessimism to optimism.

II. In one of my secular jobs that I had several years ago, we had a saying for any employee that did something that management didn't like, they had a “Bad Attitude.”

              A. By us telling someone to change their attitude, was like us telling a Zebra to change it's stripes.

                        1. How are we going to change our attitude to an Attitude of Gratitude?

                                  a. LUKE 1:37

                                  b. Focus on God, not on the problem.

                                           i. (HEB 12:2) Says, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of {our} faith.”

ii. If we're focusing on the problem... negative. (complaining)

                        2. ACTS 16:16-25

                                  a. Paul & Silas were in there darkest hour, they could have been negative.

                                  b. But they still looked to Jesus even in the midst of there darkest hour. Continued to praise God. An Attitude of Gratitude.

                                           i. Look at what happened. V 26

                                                     a. Thanksgiving type of praise. Praise brings presence of God (PSA 22:3) & also brings His anointing (ISA 10:27).

ii. They were in some heavy bondage. ...

              B. Look at 1THES 5:18

                        1. It's very important to understand, that you thank God in everything, not for everything.

                                  2. THE H.S. is teaching us how to have an Attitude of Gratitude.

                                           a. 1st get your attention on God & the Lord Jesus Christ.

                                           b. 2nd sing praises to God, weather you feel like it or not.

                                           c. 3rd In the midst of all things give thanks to God.

                                                     i. It's a choice that you have to make. I don't think that we're born w/ an Attitude of Gratitude.

                                  3. #4 Know that there is a way out of every problem.

                                           a. 1COR 10:13

                                                     i. Realize that there is a way out. God's provided an answer for your problem. (Only way to find it is to be thankful.)

III. PSA 103:1-5 This is a list of just a few things to be thankful for.

              A. In (V 2) it says, “forget not all his benefits.”

                        1. That tells me that we have many benefits in the kingdom of God.

                                  a. All of God's promises.

                        2. In (V 3) it says, “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities.”

                                  a. That's the forgiveness of sin.

                        3. In the same V it says, “who healeth all thy diseases.”

                                  a. That's healing for our bodies.

                        4. Then in (V 4) it says, “Who redeemeth thy life from destruction.”

                                  a. That's salvation.

                        5. Again in (V 4) he says, “Who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies.”

                                  a. THE NIV says, “And crowns you with love and compassion.”

                                           i. Aren't you glad that you have that Lord's love & His mercies are available to you?

                        6. In (V 5) he says, “Who satisfieth thy mouth with good {things}.”

                                  a. God only gives us good things.

                                  b. (JAMES 1:17) Says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

                        7. Then in (PSA 103:5) it says, “Thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.”

                                  a. That's health & strength.

     IV. LUK 17:12-19

              A. We need to be thankful to God all the time.
