Romans # 3
Were going to continue with the book of ROM and were going to pick up right where we left off last time.
I. ROM 1:26
A. To get the full picture of what’s going on we need to go back and start reading with (V 19).
1. V 19‑20
a. (V 20) explains (V 19).
b. All invisible things, even God and all His power, are clearly seen by through visible things.
i. In other words there is no excuse for people to be ignorant of invisible things.
ii. There is no excuse for people not receiving the Lord Jesus Christ.
iii. Even for those people that never hear about Jesus.
iv. He said there is no excuse.
c. It’s not God’s fault that those people didn’t hear, it’s ours for not winning more to the Lord and for sending missionaries out.
2. V 21‑24
a. These men chose to give up God and worship the creation, God could do nothing but to turn them over to those sinful things.
b. God will not violate man’s will.
B. V 25
1. The Truth of God, is the Gospel of God.
2. They have changed the Gospel of God into something that it is not, by doing so they change the Gospel into a lie.
a. Which is not really the Gospel.
II. V 26‑27
A. I don’t know how someone that calls themselves a Christian can think that homosexuality is OK, and even practice it.
1. These Vs are very clear.
2. If you look up the words in the Greek that talk about homosexuality they mean:
a. Dishonorable, ultimate conclusion, shameful, against nature, vile, unseemly, error, guilty of shameful conduct, degrading, unnatural, a shameful act, wrong doing, going astray, perverted, disgrace, reproach, abnormal, and perverse.
b. The end of (ROM 1:27) Says, “And receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. (KJV)
i. The WAY translation says, “Receiving in their own bodies the wages of their transgression which they richly deserved.”
ii. The AMP says, “Suffering in their own bodies and personalities the inevitable consequences and penalty of their wrong doing.”
iii. That tells me that because of their immoral and perverse life style, they have opened the door for every sickness and disease.
B. V 28
1. (ROM 1:28) (RSV) “And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind or rejected mind and to improper conduct.” (RSV)
a. If they’re not going to submit to God, God will just turn them over to Satan.
b. In (1 Corinthians 5:5) Paul says, “To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” (KJV)
C. V 29-32
1. This V is telling us that if we habitually practice those things (the Greek bears that out) and take pleasure in those who practice them are worthy of death.
a. Thank God if we were 1 of these people we can repent.
b. (1JO 1:9) Says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us {our} sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (KJV)
III. ROM 2:1-3
A. In these Vs we read that we are not to judge someone or we might be guilty of the same crime.
1. Paul is trying to get across to us that we should not judge, and why should we, God who knows all the facts will judge.
a. Now that’s not saying that you’re to be blind. You’re not going to be ignorant of sin.
b. In (2CO 6:14) Paul said, “For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?”
i. In these Vs he’s telling us not to be unequally yoked together.
ii. You’ve got to judge, to the sense of knowing what is right and what is wrong.
iii. Judging someone in the sense that Paul is talking about here would be to condemn, punish, avenge, damn, or determine sentence.
iv. You don’t condemn someone for what they are doing and you don’t determine what their sentence should be.
1. All you’re to do is to recognize whether it is sin or not. If it is decide that you will have no part of that which is wrong.
B. V 4
1. It’s God’s goodness, kindness, forbearance, tolerance, long-suffering, and patience that leads people to repentance.
a. Notice that (V 4) says that His goodness LEADS people to repentance.
b. God does not drive or force people to come to Him.
i. He continually leads us and guides us to come unto Him.
ii. That even goes for those that are serving Him. He leads us and guides us to follow Him and leads us in the paths of righteousness.
C. V 5
1. “Impenitent” according to the Strong’s concordance means “Unrepentant.”
a. The dictionary says it means, “Without regret or shame.”
2. The NIV translation of (Romans 2:5) Says, “But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.” (NIV)
D. V 6‑11
1. Paul says here that in (ROM 2:11) “For there is no respect of persons with God.”
a. Peter made a similar statement. Turn with me to ACTS 10:34-35
b. In (V 35) (ACTS 10:35) Where Peter says, “he that feareth him,” the word “feareth” means “to reverence, to treat with deference, Submission, or reverential obedience.”
i. All those that follow and obey Him are accepted by Him.
2. As Paul says in (COL 3:11) “For those that follow the Lord, there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.”
a. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done in the past, if you’re following Him, you are in Christ.
b. We’ll end with this (EPH 1:6) “To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.”
c. Thank God are names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
