The Disciples need reassurance of Jesus’ presence

The Disciples were afraid of the threat of the Jewish leaders, to torture them into submission or stone them.

Jesus came to them saying, “Peace be with you!” (vs. 19)

He showed them his hands and his side, physical proof of his torture and death.

The Ten that were there were overjoyed at see Jesus, the Lord again.

Thomas was not there to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit as the others.

Thomas was the pessimist of the group. Maybe, that’s why he wasn’t at the first meeting.

Thomas may have seen the lance trust into Jesus side at the Crucifixion.

Jesus offers to Thomas the test which declared essential, but he did not take the opportunity.

Thomas was not wrong in wishing for better proof of his Master’s Resurrection than hearsay.

Mark 13:21 NIV
At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it.

We are often discouraged to share the Gospel, especially when we don’t feel Jesus’ presence.

Everyone Doubts. (If we are honest with ourselves, we admit it)

Dishonest doubt.

Rooted in sinfulness (pride).
Demands verification on their own terms.
Results in lying to self and others to appear honest.
Seems as though they don’t really want to believe.
The Real Problems are Discouragement, Resentment, and Regret. (Poisons that eat away at our Souls)

Honest doubt.

Not rebuked by Jesus.
Expressed through agonizing & yearning for the truth & direction.
Actively seeks faith.
Mark 9:24 NIV
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

The faith of future believers (Us) is to be not only a faith in Jesus as the Christ, but, a faith in Him as the Son of God.

We are called to continue the mission, despite our insecurities, our doubts, and our fears.

“Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”

Jesus Meets Us Where We Are:

Jesus meets us in our doubt.
Jesus meets us in our grief.
Jesus meets us in our regret.
Jesus meets us in our discouragement.
Jesus meets us with faith.
Jesus meets us with peace.
Jesus meets us with forgiveness.
Jesus meets us with empowerment.

But, Jesus never leaves us the same!

The cure for discouragement is encouragement; for Resentment, Forgiveness; for Regret, Making Amends. All received while in fellowship with other believers.

Being alive today, after the Holy Spirit came to all believers at Pentecost, the mission extended to all the moment we believed.

Peter spoke clearly and decisively to the crowds at Pentecost declaring Jesus was raised to life and they witnessed it.

Peter wrote exclaiming “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!” about a new birth, living hope, an inheritance, shielded by God.

All the promises are available to the Body of Christ, the hands of Christ now at work in the world.

This is where the believer finds peace and joy even in the midst of our momentary griefs and suffering.

1 Peter 1:8–9 NIV
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
