Context: about 30 years after Christ’s death & resurrection. Church was scattered & facing trials, persecution, hardships.

First, What is A Living Hope?

- Biblical “hope” = certainty.

- Peter speaks of certainty regarding to key areas:

(1) certainty of believer's inheritance - 1 Peter 1:4

(2) certainty of believer's protection in Christ - 1 Peter 1:5

Second, How Can You Experience A Living Hope?

(1) through the “new birth”, i.e., born again - 1 Peter 1:3

(2) through faith in “the resurrection” - 1 Peter 1:3

- Romans 10:9, “For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (NLT)

Those who have this living hope can “greatly rejoice” (1 Peter 1:6) in any situation.

James 1:2, “Consider it pure joy, my bothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds."

Closing Thought/Question: Do you have this hope? If not would you like to receive it today?
