Scripture

Exodus 17:10–13 CSB
Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought against Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. While Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, but whenever he put his hand down, Amalek prevailed. When Moses’s hands grew heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat down on it. Then Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other so that his hands remained steady until the sun went down. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his army with the sword.

Introduction

At a Midwestern fair, many spectators gathered for an old-fashioned horse pull (an event where various weights are put on a horse-drawn sled and pulled along the ground).
The grand-champion horse pulled a sled with 4,500 pounds on it. The runner-up was close, with a 4,400-pound pull.
Some of the men wondered what the two horses could pull if hitched together. Separately they totaled nearly 9,000 pounds, but when hitched and working together as a team, they pulled over 12,000 pounds.
How many of you have a hero?
Someone you admire ?
Maybe Brian Lara,
Messi,
Sacchin Tendulkar
Gandhi
Mandela
Billy Graham
Anything great wasnt done by 1 man
He had a team around him
As much as I like Rambo there is no such thing
Lone Ranger had Tonto
In this scripture we see Joshua beating Amalek and his army but it was Moses, Aaron and Hur in the background who was helping to lift Moses’s hand and God helped Joshua to win.
It wasnt a one man show.
Joshua didn’t do it on his own.

Teamwork is so important in Leadership today
No matter how great you are as a leader - you can do much more when you have a team of people around you.
1 is to small a number to achieve greatness.
In this Pandemic it is not a 1 man show to defeat this virus
WE have the doctors, the nurses, the Police and others who are working together
It is a team effort to fight this Virus

Teamwork in Creation

The first examples of teamwork found in the Bible are in the opening chapter of Genesis. There we find the Trinity: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, working in concert at creation (Genesis 1:1–3). Each member of the Godhead had a position to fill in the creation of the world; each One had a defined job to perform.
On the sixth day of creation, God fashioned Adam and Eve, the first human team. They were designed to complement each other and mirror the image and the community—the teamwork—of the Trinity
Genesis 1:26–27 CSB
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.” So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.

Teamwork in The Church

Ephesians 4:12 CSB
equipping the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ,
refers to the church—the community of believers—as the “body of Christ.” The church is to work as a team.

Jesus Had A Team

Jesus’ twelve-man team was marked by its diversity (Mark 3:13–18; Luke 6:12–16). One was a tax collector, several were fishermen, one was politically active and known as “the Zealot.”
One might think that Jesus, of all people, would not have enlisted the help of others to accomplish the things the Father had sent Him to do. This One who could still the storms, raise the dead, heal the sick, make the blind see and the lame walk, bind the demonic, forgive sin, and even call ten thousand angels to his aid still enlisted a team of men, a small band of disciples.
These were men from all walks of society that had lots of faults . If Jesus had a team how much more do you as a Leader need a good team by you.
If all Jesus had did was come, die, and rose again - It would have been useless
He needed a team to assist and also to carry on the work
He sent them out on different tasks

Major Sports And Corporate World Has A Team

In the realm of sports today and even in the corporate world, we often hear the terms, team player, team effort
Brian Lara cannot do everthing. Lionel Messi cannot do everything
The Person who bowls is just as important as the Person who bats. The person who scores is just as important as the person who defends
Everyone has an important role to play
There is no jealousy in teamwork. When the whole team is working for the glory of God, there is no internal competition: “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow” (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Easter would not have happened without a team
WE need to see ourselves as part of the team
WE cant talk about leadership without talking about Teamwork

No Leader Can Do Everything

SLIDE
Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 CSB
Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts. For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up. Also, if two lie down together, they can keep warm; but how can one person alone keep warm? And if someone overpowers one person, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.
No Leader can do everything - No matter how anointed they are - they just cannot
David had his Group of Mighty Men around Him
Robin Hood had his Merry Men
Sanjay was using the illusttation of Pastors doing everything in a service -
They not gifted in everything
Even if they were - they would just burn out !!!
Don’t take your tean for granted.
Moses Father in Law Jethro had to talk to him
One of the problems in the church today is its failure to function as a team. Too frequently we have situations where a few people, often very gifted, are trying to do all or most of the work.
YOU NEED TO GIVE OTHERS A CHANCE TO SHINE
Pastor does it
No person is an island. A teamwork mentality is another one of the litmus test qualities of maturity.
Leaders need to have a team and depend on them as well.
Some leaders are scared to allow others to shine beause people may like them more than them.
This is not about you. If that is how you think maybe you should give up your position.
Thus, part of the responsibility of the church through its leadership involves first the ability to appreciate the gifts and abilities of a variety of people and then the ability to help them find places of ministry in accordance with their own giftedness, personalities, and God’s specific leading.
Because we too often fail to do this, we end up with the futile exercise of attempting to fit square pegs into round holes. Churches and their leaders must help the members of the body of Christ work to their strengths rather than their weaknesses.
Dont put someone to sing if they cause the rain to fall especially when we living in a place like Barrackpore
EVERYONE HAS A UNIQUE GIFT GIVEN TO THEM BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
SLIDE
1 Corinthians 12:4–7 CSB
Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. And there are different activities, but the same God produces each gift in each person. A manifestation of the Spirit is given to each person for the common good:
The Church doesn’t only need people who could preach, lead worship, sing like an angel etc.
Too much times we put such people on a pedestal
Churches need people who can cook - we see that in our Duck Competiton, People who can paint, People who can sew, People who can draw, People who can clean,
It have many areas you can serve in. People who can drive and have a vehicle etc.
Everyone has something they can bring to the table.
Don’t take your past experiences for granted. Your experience could open the door to your opportunity to being used by God in a Mighty Way.
So it is the duty of the leader to see what unique gifts and abilities people have and give them opportunity to use that so that they will get better at their craft.
God gave you an ability not for yourself but for the body of Christ to benefit from.
Don’t hoard your ability or demand millions from people in order to get accesss to your ability.
YOUR ABILITY IS A GIFT FROM GOD
SLIDE
GOD’S gift to me is my ability and what I do with my ability is my gift back to God
If you gifted in an area, you will obviously get better the more times you get to do it.
If you keep doing something over and over and not getting any better but getting worst and worst that could be a sign that it is not your gift lol.
Leaders need to give people a chance to work on areas where they are celebrated and not tolerated.
You need to choose wisely who gets what role.
Don’t give Judas the job of being the treasurer - that is not a wise decision to make.
Talk to the Holy Spirit about the different people in your team and ask him how he wants them to be used!!
Open up your eyes to see the gifting and abilities in the people.
Dwight L. Moody had the right perspective. He once said that he would rather put a thousand men to work than do the work of a thousand men.

How Jesus Developed His Team

SLIDE

Jesus Delegated

However, Jesus gave His disciples exciting jobs to do too. Once, He sent 70 people on a challenging excursion to preach the gospel and heal the sick (
Luke 10:1-9
). They weren’t even allowed to take with them any money or supplies!
SLIDE

Jesus Gave Away Authority To The Team

Jesus wasn’t afraid to give authority to others. In
Luke 9
, He gave the 12 power and authority over demons as well as to cure diseases. In
Luke 10:19 CSB
Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing at all will harm you.
, He gave authority to the 70. In fact, the whole point of the tiny parable in
Mark 13:34 CSB
“It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his servants, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert.
is that He has given authority to all of His servants.

Jesus gave His team a shared mission

Jesus gave His team both a shared mission and a common goal. Their shared mission was the Great Commission. Their common goal was to be witnesses empowered by the Holy Spirit as in Acts 1:8

APPLICATION AND Conclusion

SLIDE
For the Leaders Think of Everyone on Your Team. Every Single Person who comes out and ask God to show you How They Can be used in their strengths to grow and develop and to fulfill the overall Mission
For the Non Leaders think of what you can bring to the table to help the team go futher
The Whole Point of This Message is to understand we are all part of a team and we need all hands on deck.
Mother Theresa who said - I can do what you cannot do, you can do what i cannot do. Together we can do great things.

Resumes of Apostles

To: Jesus, Son of Joseph

Dear Sir:
Thank you for submitting the resumes of the twelve men you have picked for managerial positions in your new organization. All of them have now taken our battery of tests; and we have not only run the results through our computer, but also arranged personal interviews for each of them with our psychologist and vocational aptitude consultant.
The profiles of all tests are included, and you will want to study each of them carefully.
As part of our service, we make some general comments for your guidance, much as an auditor will include some general statements. This is given as a result of staff consultation, and comes without any additional fee.
It is the staff opinion that most of your nominees are lacking in background, education and vocational aptitude for the type of enterprise you are undertaking. They do not have the team concept. We would recommend that you continue your search for persons of experience in managerial ability and proven capability.
Simon Peter is emotionally unstable and given to fits of temper. Andrew has absolutely no qualities of leadership. The two brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, place personal interest above company loyalty. Thomas demonstrates a questioning attitude that would tend to undermine morale. We feel that it is our duty to tell you that Matthew had been blacklisted by the Greater Jerusalem Better Business Bureau; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus definitely have radical leanings, and they both registered a high score on the manic-depressive scale.
One of the candidates, however, shows great potential. He is a man of ability and resourcefulness, meets people well, has a keen business mind, and has contacts in high places. He is highly motivated, ambitious, and responsible. We recommend Judas Iscariot as your controller and right-hand man. All of the other profiles are self-explanatory.
We wish you every success in your new venture.
Sincerely, Jordan Management Consultants
