We're going to continue our teaching on the subject of healing.
Last week we looked at Jesus being a substitute for us.
*I) *In *(2nd Corinthians 5:21)* it says that *God has made Jesus* *to be sin for us* *who knew no sin*.
*A) *Turn over to *Isaiah 53:4*.
*1) **1st of all* *the Word* *"BORNE"* in this verse *means*, *"TO CARRY OR TAKE."*
*2) **Then he says* that *Jesus* *took up our* *"GRIEFS."*
*a) *The Word *"GRIEFS"* in this verse *comes from* the *Hebrew word* *which means* *"SICKNESS."*
*3) **The next phrase* which says, *"And carried our sorrows,"* should *literally* be translated, *"And carried our PAINS."*
*a) *Just a little *side thought* here, *according to* my *Strong's concordance* the *Word* *"PAINS"* in here, *refers to, "BOTH MENTAL PAINS* *AND* *PHYSICAL PAINS."*
*B) *Now look at *Isaiah 53:5*.
*1) **In the first part of that verse* it *says* that *Jesus was* *"Wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities."*
*a) **Transgressions and iniquities* both *refer to* *our sins*.
*b) **Both of these verses* (*Isaiah 53:4-5*) *referred to Jesus being are substitute*, *taking upon himself our sickness*, *disease*, *and* *pain* *and* also *paying the price for our sins*.
*(i) **This is all part of the redemptive work* of the Lord.
*C) **(Galatians 3:13)* says, *"Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us."*
*1) *Again *(Galatians 3:13)* *shows* us *that Jesus* *was our substitute*.
*a) *The word *"REDEEMED"* in that verse *means* *"PURCHASED."*
*(i) *The *first time* that I ever had a *knowledge or understanding* *of* the Word *"REDEEMED or REDEMPTION"* probably *goes back* some *35 years* ago.
*(ii) **How many* of you *remember* *the S and H green stamps or* the *blue chip stamps?* (*Explain*).
*(iii) **You would go to* the *redemption center* *with* your *books*, *filled with stamps* *to redeem or purchase* *some item*.
*2) **Jesus has also redeemed us* *and* *by doing so has set us free from the curse* of the law.
*a) **Last week* we already *said* that the *curse of the law* *is* *"POVERTY, SICKNESS, AND DEATH."*
*(i) *We *already covered* *SICKNESS* by *showing* that *Jesus was our substitute* and took our sicknesses upon himself.
*(ii) **And* *we already covered* *DEATH*, *SPIRITUAL DEATH*, *which is a RESULT OF SIN*.
And *again* *Jesus was our substitute*.
He was *made* to be *sin for us*.
*b) *Well, *what about POVERTY?*
*c) *Look at *2nd Corinthians 8:9*.
*(i) **Again* *it shows* that *Jesus was our substitute*.
*He paid the price* for us *so that we can have God's best*.
*d) **Some* try to *argue* *that* the *poverty and riches* mentioned in this verse *are not* in the *physical* sense *but* in the *spiritual* sense.
*(i) *Now I do *agree* that it *has taken place in the spiritual sense*, *but* it is *also taken place* *in* the *natural or physical* *realm*.
*e) **The curse of the law* *and what we've been redeemed* *from basically comes from Deuteronomy chapter 28*.
*3) *So let's *turn there*.
I don't have time to read the whole chapter to you, but *in this chapter* *you'll find* *the curse and the reverse of the curse*.
*a) **JESUS* being *our substitute* has *REVERSED THE CURSE* *and* *now we have* *the blessings of God*.
*b) *But *right now* I *want look at Jesus* *REVERSING THE CURSE OF POVERTY*.
*c) **Deuteronomy 28:11a*.
*(i) **The Word* *"GOODS"* in this verse can *also be translated* *"PROSPERITY."*
*4) **Jesus has reversed the curse* *and provided a perfect redemption*, *which includes* *LIFE AND SALVATION*, *HEALTH AND HEALING* *and* *PROSPERITY AND ABUNDANCE*.
*II) *Now turn with the over to *Matthew 8:17*.
*A) **According to the Greek*, the *verb* *"TOOK"* *is a* *CONTINUOUS ACTION VERB*, which *means*, *JESUS TOOK OUR SICKNESSES* *as well as sins*, *YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND FOREVER*.
*1) *He's still in the healing business.
*B) **(Deuteronomy 7:15)* gives us *another promise of healing*, which says, *"The Lord will take away from the ALL sickness."*
*C) **Healing belongs to you*, *but let me ask you this question*, *"HOW GOOD YOU HAVE TO BE BEFORE YOU RECEIVE YOUR HEALING?"*
*1) **How many hours* to you have to *pray* before your healed?
*How many hours* you have to spend *reading the Word* before your healed?
*2) **Healing is not based* *on our own merit* *or* *on how good you are*.
*a) **If that was the case*, *none of us would be worthy* *to receive* our *healing* *or* walk in *health*.
*b) **Our health and healing* *belongs to us because of Christ’s finished work* on that cross *and* *because of his love*, *compassion*, and *mercy*.
*(i) *And *we receive it by* *simply trusting God* *and His Word* *without wavering*.
*III) **One of the reasons* *why many in the body of Christ* *don't receive their healing* *is due to a lack confidence in the Word* of God.
*A) **From the Word* of God *we see that Jesus provided a perfect redemption*.
*1) **In that redemption* *there is perfect healing*, *but many*, *either through a lack confidence* *or* *a lack of knowledge* of the Word *are still sick*.
*a) *In *(Hosea 4:6)* *the Lord said*, *"My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge."*
(*Knowledge* of the *Word*).
*2) **If we want to be healed* in our bodies, *we have to realize* *that* *there is miraculous working power in the Word* of God.
*B) **In* the book of *Psalms* we have *another verse* *that promises healing*, but *this time* *healing is connected to the Word* of God.
*1) *Let's turn to it *Psalms 107:20*.
*2) *The *Moffatt translation* makes it even *clearer* by saying, *"He sent His Word TO heal them and preserve their life."*
*a) **There is healing power in the Word*.
*C) **Hebrews 4:12*.
*1) **The Word* *being* powerful, and really *all-powerful*, *should not surprise us* very much.
*2) *In *(John 1:1)* it says, *"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God."*
*a) *And *in* *(verse 14)* it *says*, *"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us*, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
*b) **Jesus is the Word* of God.
*c) **When Jesus healed the sick*, *it was the same as the Word *of God *healing the sick*.
*D) **I'm sure you remember* the *story* *of* the *lame man* who was laid at the gate of the temple called Beautiful in *(Acts 3)*.
(*Peter and John*).
*1) **Acts 3:16*
*a) **What is his name*?
In (*Revelation 19:13*) in reference to Jesus *says that his name is* *"The Word of God."*
*b) **Jesus and the Word* of God *are the same*.
*He sent his Word to heal them* *or* *he sent Jesus to heal them*.
*It's the same* *for Jesus is the Word of God*.
*2) **How did this lame man* in (acts 3) *receive his healing?*
*a) **It was through faith* *in the name of Jesus* *or* *it was through faith* *in the Word* that was *preached*.
*b) *But *notice* that *it was through faith*: *simply believing God* *and his Word* *that healed this man*.
*c) **Also take note* *that* *the healing this man received* *was not based on his own merit*, *but* *was based on his faith in* the *Lord* Jesus Christ *and* *the Word* of God.
*E) *Turn to *John 15:7*.
*1) **He's telling us* in that verse *that* *if we have Jesus in our heart* *and* *we are in Him* *and* *if we have the Word* of God *in our hearts*, *then we can ask what we want or need* *and* *it will be given to us.*
*2) **If we want healing from what ails us* *we have to have an integrity of the Word* of God, *knowing that the Word* of God *is the absolute truth*.
*3) *Turn to *2nd Timothy 3:16*.
(*God breathed*).
*a) **The Word* of God *is the Will of God*.
*b) **The Word* of God *is the power of God*.
*c) **It was the Word* of God *and* *faith in the Word* of God, *which healed the lame man*, *and* *it's the same Word* of God *and faith in the Word* *that will heal your body*.
