Good Friday

Good morning everyone!
Glad you guys could join us as we look at Jesus and his death on the cross.
You see today is Friday and we call it Good Friday.
As Jesus was taken out of the Garden.
He would be throw through trail after trail.
No one would find him guilty.
Yet his accusers kept trying.
Luke 23:13–16 ESV
Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. I will therefore punish and release him.”
Luke 23:13-
Yet even after this listen to the crowd.
Luke 23:18 ESV
But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”—
Luke 23:18
Barabbas was a murder and he was already in prison.
Just once more we see that there is no such thing as a coincidence.
Jesus would be substituted.
His life for another.
The crowd got louder and louder.
Luke 23:20 ESV
Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus,
Luke 23:20–21 ESV
Pilate addressed them once more, desiring to release Jesus, but they kept shouting, “Crucify, crucify him!”
Pilate doesn’t get it.
Luke 23:22–25 ESV
A third time he said to them, “Why? What evil has he done? I have found in him no guilt deserving death. I will therefore punish and release him.” But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted. He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will.
Jesus would be paraded through the streets on his way to the placed called The Skull.
When Jesus got up he had nails driven though his wrist and his feet.
He would be hung next to two criminals.
Here is where I want to look at:
Luke 23:44–46 ESV
It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.
It was about noon— and darkness covered the whole land.
It was dark— one can’t help but be reminded of the darkness that covered Egypt all those years prior to this moment.
It says that the sun’s— big burning ball of gas and fire— that is failed.
The sun failed to shine its light.
Yet the Son of God was put on display for the whole word to see.
Before Jesus gives up his life.
Look at what happens.
We talked about this for a couple of days already.
But here is the curtain in the temple.
The curtain that separated the holy place from the holy of holy place.
This was curtain was up to separate the people from God.
Yet in this moment.
The curtain was tore.
Hebrews 9:11–12 ESV
But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.
Hebrews 9:
Jesus not only was flipping the world on its head- but he changed everything forever.
No longer would animal sacrifices, no longer would you have to see a priest to confess sins too— you see the sacrifice of Jesus covered your sins and instead of having an earthly mediator you have the best and greatest priest Jesus.
Hebrews 4:14–16 ESV
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:14-
You are now able to freely go to God and lay down your burdens.
Because the promise of redemption from an outstretched arm was covered, was done and paid for the great rescue plan was now mission complete.
Our sins covered up the blood of Christ.
It is finished.
While Jesus was suffocating with every breath he took, yet Jesus said 7 things while he was on the cross.
He was suffocating with every breath he took, yet Jesus said 7 things while he was on the cross.
We do not have near enough to look at all of those but we are going to look at one.
The last of the seven.
Into your hands I commit my spirit.
All that was left to do was Jesus and the Father to be reunited.
Until the crowd was
Death did not take Jesus- Jesus allowed death to take him.
As he committed his spirit to the Lord- the Son of God gave up his life up freely.
While those who were there would have never called this day good— they lost their friend, brother, son, rabbi, teacher, prophet, Son of God.
This day would have been so hard to comprehend.
To them it would not have been good— but dreadful.
Yet we can look at this day and because of the sacrifice that was made on the Cross at the place called the Skull, we can call the day good because it was the day that true loved died.
Hebrews 10:10 ESV
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
This day— yes said as Jesus would be placed in the tomb— yet good because on this day— Sin would be defeated.
The perfect lamb- Jesus would be sacrificed for one time for all time.
This is why we can view this day as good and also because by the morning on Sunday— the tomb would be empty.
Because
Today our church is joining with our coverage conference to take this good Friday as a day of prayer and fasting.
I would ask that you join me and many other in our church in a day of prayer and fasting on Good Friday.
This is a time for us to fervently pray for physical and spiritual healing in our land.
churches in a day of prayer and fasting on Good Friday.  This is a time for us to fervently pray for physical and spiritual healing in our land.  This is something you can do, by humbly crying out to God for His power.
This is something you can do, by humbly crying out to God for His power.
So pray but I would also ask that you fast for a meal, or maybe you want too fast while Jesus was on the cross.
This is why we posted this earlier than normal- so you can get a jump on this.
At 9 in the morning Jesus was put on the cross and three in the afternoon is when Jesus died.
Join me in remembering the sacrifice:
But while also keeping in mind that it is Friday but Sunday is coming.
YOU ARE SO LOVED
