IMPERATIVES: #1 Determine Your Goal;#2 Pick A Point (It’s important to have a one point message. That way you only have one thing to remember.);#3 Create A Map (Me-We-God-You-We);#4 Internalize The Message (Tell a story that takes them on a journey) (Whether it’s a journey to your childhood home or a journey to a life-changing truth, it’s a story that will take you there.) (People make it difficult when they try to communicate points instead of telling a story.) (When you stand up and speak without notes and without having to read your sermon, you’re saying, “This is so important that it’s a part of me — and I think you should make it a part of you, too!”);#5 Engage The Audience;#6 Find Your Voice;#7 Find Some TractionPrayer, Checklist Questions: What do they need to know? Why do they need to know it?What do they need to do?Why do they need to do it?MAP:ME - Explain who you are and what you’re all about. Pastor in his church uses as introduction of idea or topic.WE - It takes me from what I’m thinking or feeling to what WE are thinking and feeling. I have to find an emotional common ground with them around the topic or idea of the message. My goal is to raise a felt need with as many people in the audience as I canGOD - where I take this emotional common ground I’ve established and introduce biblical truth into the discussion. Now I’m providing a solution to the need I just raised. Remember, we are not teaching the Bible to people; we’re teaching people the Bible. First, we connect with the people; then we move to the Bible.YOU - Once I’ve introduced God’s view on the subject as the answer to the need, it makes it easy for me to then ask, ‘What are you going to do about it? This becomes the application segment, and if I’ve followed my map well, instead of having to stir up interest in making the application, the application comes as a relief or it’s always the answer to a question they’re already asking. Communicate the challenge at a personal level because life-change is going to come when people apply the truth to their lives. You just go back, and everywhere you raised a need, now you make an application and make sure you don’t raise a felt need that you aren’t going to cover from God’s Word and answer with an application. The worst thing a communicator can do is overpromise and under-deliver. You’re building trust with your listeners. Not just trust in the information, but trust in the relationship.WE - the place to cast a common vision. A vision of what our lives, our church, and even our world would look like if only we would apply the truth of God’s Word. It’s the inspirational part of the message. My goal at this point is to inspire people to make a change. Sometimes being faced with God’s Word can leave the listener feeling defeated, if all they think about is how far they have to go. But, if I can give them a picture of what life will be like once they apply the truth, then they have a little hope.

GOAL: To celebrate the truth of the resurrection and to discover how it shapes our lives.

POINT:

INTRODUCTION

Normally, the Easter hymns are some of the most glorious in the Christian tradition: “He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today!” “christ the Lord is risen today.” In some churches the Hallelujah Chorus is sung. We bring out the brass and our best soloists. Our praise teams and choirs have extra rehearsals to learn new music. We come early - just to get a seat - and wear our finest. It is a d ay of celebration. I don’t know what Easter traditions in your church or family have been especially meaningful to you; but I’m sure our worlds has been turned upside down because of the present day situation we live in. What parts of a worship service most cause you to praise God?

(ME)

For me, it is a combination of the time in music and then the preaching of the Word of God! When the apostle Paul mentioned the resurrection of Jesus to the philosophers in Athens, some of them sneered . . . and you know what . . . some still do. And well they might! After all, such a thing just couldn’t happen . . . or could it?

(WE)

I want you to imagine that we are returning to the grave of a person you saw buried a few days ago. When you get there you find an open pit and an open casket with no body in it. How would you react? And then . . . there are a group of women who come by and tell you what happened . . . they give eye-witness testimony! How would you react?
You see, Christ arose from the dead, both body and soul. After He arose, He appeared to the eleven disciples. He appeared to various groups after His resurrection. Forty days later, He ascended into heaven, and is now seated on the right hand of God.

MESSAGE

This morning, in our short amount of time, I want to focus on verse 25-29 concerning the prophecy.

(GOD)

1) PEOPLE! In verse 25-26 we see that Jesus scolds the PEOPLE for not accepting and believing the OT prophecies. WHY? BECAUSE JESUS CARES ABOUT PEOPLE!
2) PROPHECY! In verse 27 Jesus starts with Moses, and explains through the Prophets all the promises of His resurrection. Why did Jesus do this?
Several reasons: 1) they show that the sufferings of Christ, as well as his glory, were predicted in the OT and that all the OT Scriptures are important. 2) They also show that the way the writers of the NT used the OT had its origin, not in their own creativity, 3) Luke also demonstrated that what God had promised must take place.
3) PERSON! In verse 28-29 . . . Jesus stops to eat with the two disciples and reveals to them His identity.
In verse 28-32 we see the invitation for Jesus to stay with the two follows the ancient custom of hospitality. While this is probably true, Jesus would have gone on, had he not been invited to stay, this polite action seems intended to draw out a very strong response from Cleopas and his companion, who indeed then “urged him strongly” to stay.
Then, they recognized him as he took the role of the host and broke the bread, giving thanks . . . and this of course recalls the feeding of the five thousand as well as the Last Supper. Whether the two noticed the nail scars, we don’t know, but somehow they knew! This whole story ends abruptly as Jesus disappeared and Cleopas and his companion reflected on their feelings of intense inner warmth as they said “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
Why did Jesus do this? Because, again, JESUS CARES ABOUT PEOPLE! He reveals himself to them and us because He wants Himself to be known!

(YOU)

He wants YOU and I to know Him! All through this week (THE PASSION WEEK), He has done what He has done because He wants to speak into our lives and reveal Himself as the one who cares about us, the one who loves us, the one who comforts us, the one who gives us strength in times of weakness! Ultimately, the one who died for us so that we may live!

CONCLUSION

Because Christ lives, we too shall live. Life is promised to all of His followers (; ).
John 11:25–26 NIV84
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
John 3:16 NIV84
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
He lives, and when He lives in our hearts, we too shall have abundant life (), and eternal life ().
John 10:10 NIV84
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
He lives, and when He lives in our hearts, we too shall have abundant life (), and eternal life (John 5:24).
John 5:24 NIV84
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.
In this time we live in . . . it is an unprecedented time like no other! These days have brought many thoughts to our minds, many doubts, many fears, many things!
But, Jesus Christ wants to bring peace into your life! He doesn’t want you to worry but to trust in Him! He doesn’t want you to fear because He comes to bring you peace.
I want to invite you right now, if you haven’t already done it . . . to receive Christ into your life! Let the darkest of weeks in history (THE PASSION WEEK - GOOD FRIDAY, when we remember the suffering of Jesus) bring you joy as the RESURRECTION DID! This day in history is the brightest day because there was a great redemption at work behind the scenes. The message of Jesus, the hope that He brings, matters more now than ever: because of His death and resurrection, we can have life!
During this unprecedented moment in time, we look to God and we remember the suffering of Jesus. On this Good Friday, we are reminded that in the midst of suffering and loss, great redemption is at work behind the scenes. The message of Jesus, the hope that He brings, matters more now than ever: because of His death and resurrection, we can have life!
