Action in Mark

Begins with ministry of John
Then Jesus is shown preaching in Galilee
Jesus calls the first four apostles long after they had begun following Him -
John 1:35–42 ESV
The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter).

Authority

Teaches with authority
Commands demons to leave and be quiet
Eradicates disease

Overwhelming Desire

Everyone looked for Jesus
Would not be silent
Destroying a house

Opposition to Jesus

Diverse groups oppose Jesus
If is different, it must be bad?
If it is different, it must be good?
If it is different, it must be different; not forced to fit into what already is

Multitudes and Isolation

Jesus was angry, not at personal hurt, but at refusal to help others
Pharisees, Jesus and His disciples, and His family all seek isolation, yet His fame brings multitudes together
Eternal sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit
To deny evident truth is soul-condemning
Our eternal family are those with whom we share an inheritance from God

Parables of Jesus

Parable of the sower, not soils
Understanding parables
Parable of seed, not sower
Parable of mustard seed
