*This* entire *Psalm* is a *psalm of praise* to God for His goodness.
It *begins* by saying, “*/It is a good {thing} to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High/*.”
But notice the latter part of (*/V 10/*) “*/I shall be anointed with fresh oil.”
/*In the midst of praising God for His goodness, the psalmist said,*/ “I shall be anointed with fresh oil/*.”

*a.*
*I believe* that it is *more* *than* *just a **SYMBOL*.
*i.*
*Some say* that “*/oil/*” is *JUST* a *symbol* of the *HS*.
*&* at the time a *person* who is *afflicted* with a *sickness* *is anointed* with oil they are to *believe God* that they are *healed*, *according to*
                                                                  *a.*
(*/JAMES 5:14-15/*) which says, “*/Is any sick among you?
let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up/*.”
*ii.*
That's true & *that's 1 way to get healed*, *but I* still *feel* that there is *something more to it than that*.
*b.*
Let me ask you this, “*Why *do we* lay hands on someone to be healed*?”
*i.*
So that it's a *point of contact* *&* at that time the *person* can *release* their *faith*.
*ii.*
That's *something* that *we all need to do*.
(release faith)
                                                      *iii.*
But if you *remember* the *woman* with the *issue of blood* in (*/MARK 5/*) *when* she* touched Jesus* *virtue or power went out* of Him.
                                                      *iv.*
The *same* thing *happens* *when hands are laid upon someone*.
There's *more to* the *laying on of hands* *than just a symbol* *or* *point of contact*.
*v*.
And it's the *same with oil*.
*2.*
*When* the *Bible talks about* the *anointing with oil*, it's *referring* to *OLIVE OIL* along *with different spices*.
*a.*
It was *used to consecrate or set aside someone* *or something for* a *holy purpose*.
*b.*

                                          *c.*
Also, an *object or* a *thing could be anointed*.
*i.*
*EXAMPLE*: In (*/EXO 40:9‑15/*) We see that the *Tabernacle &* its *furnishings* were also *anointed*.
*B.* The *anointing oil* was *HOLY OIL* & it was *used to consecrate* or *set apart for holy purpose* that *which* the *Lord designated*.
*1.*
*/EXO 30:22‑25; 31‑33/*
                                          *a.*
The *anointing oil* was *holy because* it was a *type of* the *Spirit of God*.
*b.* *After* the *anointing with oil*, the *Spirit of God* would *come upon* the *man* of God *to anoint him from that day forward to fulfill* his *office & to carry out God's plan* for him on the earth.
*2.*
In the *O.T*., *people* were *not born again*; the *H.S*.
could *not live inside* them, He could only *come upon them to anoint* them *for service*.
*a.*
But in the *N.T.,* the *H.S*.
*lives inside* believes.
(*/JOH 14:16‑17/*)
                                          *b.*
*Even today* *with* the *H.S*.
*living inside* every believer, the *H.S*.
*still comes upon those who stand in* the *5 fold ministry* gifts, *so* that they would *be* *equipped* for service.
*II.*
Before we go on any further let's *look at the O.T*. & *see* the *Anointing* *for* the *different offices*.
*A.* *1st* of all let's *look at* the *office* of the *Prophet*.
*1.*
Turn with me to */1KINGS 19/* & we see that *Elijah* was *told to anoint Elisha*.
*2.* */1KINGS 19:15‑16/*
                              *3.*
The Bible declares that the *prophets are anointed*.
(*/PSA 105:15/*) Says, “*/{Saying}, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm./*”
*a.*
*Other translations omit* the word “*and*.”
“*/Touch not my  anointed ones, do my prophets no harm!/*”
(RSV)
                                          *b.*

Turn there with me.
*/1SAM 16:1‑8, 10‑13/*
                              *2.*
*Listen* to *what God said about* King *David* in (*/PSA 89:20/*) “*/I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him/*:”
                                          *a.*
It's *the anointing of God* which *enables a person* to *stand in the office* *God* has *called* him to.
*b.*
It is the *anointing* which *enables* *you to stand* in the *position where God* has *called you*.
*3.*
*David*, *after* he was *anointed*, *had* the *Spirit* of God *come upon him* from that day forward *to enable him* to *stand in* that *office*.
*III.*
*To help* us *understand* the *anointing in* the *N.T*., we must *realize* that the *terms*: *POWER*, *SPIRIT*, *HOLY* *GHOST*, *&* *HOLY SPIRIT* are *synonymous* *to* the *ANOINTING*.
In other words they *mean* the *same thing*.
