The Significance of Humility

2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV 1900
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Philippians 2:5–7 KJV 1900
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
The first two parts looks who we are are God’s people.

We are God’s People

We are marked by
The realization of his presence
The Knowledge of His Voice
Our obedience to God
Our trust in God

We are the called

We are called
To be saints
Unto the fellowship with Jesus
Into the grace of Christ
By the Gospel
With a holy calling

God’s People are special

Exodus 19:5 KJV 1900
5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
You shall be to God
++A peculiar people
++A treasured people
++A positioned people

Moses writes we are in a state of becoming.

1 Peter 2:9 KJV 1900
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
You are
++A chosen generation
++A royal priesthood
++an holy nation
++A peculiar people

The significance of Christ.

Because of Christ
++We are not just becoming
++We are
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
This is not an earthly concept but a heavenly revelation.

A covenant people have benefits

Mark 4:11 KJV 1900
11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
God promises
++Divine insight
++Inside information
++Revealed secrets
Deuteronomy 29:29 KJV 1900
29 The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Can we be trusted with divine revelation?

Matthew 16:17–18 KJV 1900
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

There is something intoxication about revelation.

2 Corinthians 12:7 KJV 1900
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
When something is revealed
++We feel significant
++We feel special
++We have privileged information

What is the purpose of Revelation?

1 Peter 2:9 KJV 1900
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
We are chosen to
++To know who God is
++To know what God has done
++To praise God

The Significance of Humility

2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV 1900
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
For the land to be healed
++God needs a people
++We must understand the Call
++We must Humble ourselves
Deuteronomy 8:1–3 KJV 1900
1 All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers. 2 And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. 3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
1 Peter 5:6 KJV 1900
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
James 4:6 KJV 1900
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Humility is a
++Recognition of our inadequacy

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
2 Corinthians 3:5 KJV 1900
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Humility is a
Recognition of our inadequacy
++Realization of our need
Philippians 3:8 KJV 1900
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Philippians 3:13 KJV 1900
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Humility is a
Recognition of our inadequacy
Realization of our need
++Reliance on God
2 Corinthians 3:5 KJV 1900
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Romans 8:28 KJV 1900
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
1 Timothy 4:10 KJV 1900
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
This is why
++We labour
++We suffer reproach

We trust in the living God

In Him only
++Is the salvation to all men
++We believe and have faith
Hebrews 11:6 KJV 1900
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
systems will change
circumstances are temporary
people will disappoint
this is our confidence

God is a promise keeper

…He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hebrews 6:10 KJV 1900
10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
Philippians 2:6–8 KJV 1900
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Philippians 2:5 KJV 1900
