Today we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. But I want us to go back just 1 week before the resurrection.

I) This story picks up in MATT 21:2-5 (read)

A) The disciples did exactly as Jesus asked.

1) Jesus then came into Jerusalem riding on that donkey, and all the people began to cry out, “Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”

(a) This is what we know as Palm Sunday. People began to spread their garments in the street; others laid Palm branches in the road.

(i) This seemed to be a time of celebration, but for Jesus this was really anything but a celebration.

(ii) He knew that even while he was coming into the city that there were those that were conspiring against Him.

(b) Jesus knew all the events that were about to take place in the next few days.

(i) After Jesus entered into Jerusalem He went immediately into the temple, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers. (MATT 21:12)

(ii) After that Jesus ministered to the sick, and then left the city.

2) On that very next day, early that Monday morning, Jesus and His Disciples were returning to Jerusalem, when Jesus gave us that famous teaching on FAITH. Found here in (MATT 21:21-22) But also in (MARK 11:23-24).

(a) In the next few days Jesus spent much of His time teaching the people.

(i) The Chief Priests and the Pharisees were still trying to trick Jesus and get Him to say something that they could arrest Him and execute Him.

3) MATT 26:14-29

(a) This is what we call the Last Supper and Communion.

B) If you will turn with me to 1COR 11:23-31

1) Just a few days before Jesus was crucified He took communion with the Disciples, and that’s what were going to do at this time.

(a) Before we pass out the elements there are just a few things that I want to cover.

(i) 1st Paul said when we take Communion we need to do it “In remembrance of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

(ii) But Paul also said in (V 28) “But let a man examine himself before he takes communion.”

(a) One of the areas where people missed it in Paul's day was that they took communion irreverently.

(b) Communion should not be taken lightly but we should be focusing on the Lord.

2) Take this time now, as the ushers will be passing out the elements to focus on the Lord, to remember all that He has done for us.

C) Prayer

1) 1 COR 11:23-24

2) 1COR 11:25
