We’re going to continue our teaching on confessing the Word of God, which we’ve been on for a number of weeks now. And let’s pick up where we left off last time.

I) If you have your Bibles turn with me to Romans 4:17.

A) (Verse 17) tells us that God calls those things that be not as though they were.

1) This is the same type of faith that Jesus told the disciples to have back in (MARK 11:22).

a) Calling those things that be not as though they were, is a principal from the Word of God that all of us should be putting to practice.

b) That means we should be SPEAKING forth the PROMISES of God and PUTTING your FAITH IN GOD that those words will come to pass.

B) Back in (Romans 4:18) it says, “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.”

1) When Paul says, “Who against hope believed in hope” it means that in the natural it LOOKED IMPOSSIBLE for him to HAVE CHILDREN, but he CHOSE to BELIEVE that IT WAS POSSIBLE.

a) And how could he believe that was possible? Because of God’s Word, which said, “So shall thy seed be?”

2) The next 3 Vs. tell us how he received the promise.

C) Let’s read Romans 4:19.

1) The Word “CONSIDERED” here in this verse means from the Strong’s concordance, “TO FIX ONE’S EYES OR MIND UPON.”

a) He REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE CIRCUMSTANCES and he REFUSED to LET HIS MIND STAY ON the NEGATIVE.

2) You might be experiencing some problems today. It might be sickness, financial problems, emotional problems, family problems, mental problems or just about anything else.

a) Refuse to look at those things. Sure do what has to be done in the natural, but GET your MIND off the PROBLEM AND on the ANSWER, which is found in the Word of God.

3) In (verse 20) it says that HE STAGGERED NOT AT THE PROMISE OF GOD THROUGH UNBELIEF.

a) Staggering at the promise of God would be keeping your eyes and mind on the problem.

b) But Abraham was strong in faith, which means he believed what God said.

4) The last part of (verse 20) says “GIVING GLORY TO GOD.”

a) He gave glory to God and praise God before he ever saw the answer.

b) And in (verse 20) it says that HE WAS FULLY PERSUADED. In other words, he was IN UNWAVERING FAITH that what GOD promised He WOULD BRING IT TO PASS.

D) Paul said in (1THES 5:24) “Faithful is He that called you, who will do it.” God is faithful to perform it.

1) In (JER 1:12) the Lord said, “I will hasten my word to perform it.”

E) Turn to HEB 10:23.

1) The word “PROFESSION” in this V is the same Greek word for “CONFESSION”.

a) So in other words this V says, “Hold fast to your CONFESSION OF FAITH, for God is faithful that promised.”

II) MAT 8:5-10, 13.

A) Jesus spoke the Word and the servant was healed.

1) But notice something else that Jesus said in V 10 (read)

2) Why did this man have such great faith?

a) He had revelation of the power and authority of the Word of God.

B) In order for you to have this same kind of GREAT FAITH, you to need to have this same REVELATION.

1) Not only did this man have a revelation of the power of words, but he also HAD FAITH that the boy would be healed.

a) Again you can’t separate faith and confession they go hand-in-hand.

2) Just a little side thought, but why was this centurion so worried about his servant?

a) In the Greek the wordSERVANT” in this verse refers to a boy or young child.

b) The centurion had faith that Jesus would heal the boy.

3) In (HEB 11:3) it says, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God.”

a) The worlds were framed by the Word of God.

b) There is power in the spoken Word of God.

III) Look at LUKE 17:5-6.

A) The KJV says, “If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say...”

1) But in the Greek it’s a little different.

a) The Greek interlinear (along with the Wuest Translation and New American Standard Bible says, “If you had faith as a seed you would say

b) The ASV says the same thing. It’s worded like this, “And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, YE WOULD SAY unto this sycamore tree, Be thou rooted up, and be thou planted in the sea; and it WOULD OBEY YOU.

c) Faith has a voice.

(i) Faith speaks and when it does the circumstance will change. It must obey you.

2) This did not say it would obey God, and it did not say that it would obey the Holy Spirit. It says that IT WOULD OBEY YOU.

3) Now notice that the apostles said, “LORD, INCREASE OUR FAITH,” “Lord, why don’t you just give us more faith? That’s what we need, we need more faith.”

a) Jesus replied to that statement, “You don’t need more faith.

(i) All you need is a drop of faith, something that’s the size of a seed.

(ii) But Jesus was implying is that you need to understand how faith works.

b) The main point that Jesus is trying to get across is that FAITH is RELEASED WHEN YOU SPEAK IT.

(i) The very power that is contained in faith is released when you speak it, when you confess it.

c) Look at MARK 11:23.

(i) Notice Jesus’ teaching here. 1st He says, “You have to say it.” “Speak to you mountain.”

(ii) Then he says, “You can’t doubt it, but your have to believe it.”

(iii) The 3rd thing that He says here is that after you speak it, and believe it, it will come to pass. It will happen.

(iv) The power of faith is released when you speak it.

IV) In the book Numbers chapter 13. Moses sent 12 spies into the promise land to spy out the land, but only 2 spies came back with a good report, 10 came back with an evil report.

A) When the people listened to the evil negative report of the 10 spies, they began to murmur.

1) And because of that the Lord said in (NUMBERS 14:28-29) “As ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you: Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness.”

a) The power that is contained in Faith is released when you speak the Word of God and believe it.

b) But doubt and unbelief also has a power and it too is released by speaking it.

B) We also have the story in the book of JOSHUA where the children of Israel came to the city of Jericho. Joshua told the people that they could not even say a word.

1) JOSHUA 6:10.

a) What was so important about the words that came out of their mouth?

b) If the people would have been allowed to talk, then I’m sure there would have been a lot of negative talking.

(i) The wrong confession, like how are we ever going to take this city, they are going to destroy us.

(ii) There had to be a stop to it before they would reap the fruit of their lips.

C) In the book of (LUKE 1:13, 18-20) an angel appeared to Zacharias and told him that he was going to have a son.

1) Zacharias could not believe it. Because of it the angel said in (Luke 1:20) “And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.”

a) Because Zacharias did not believe, he would have spoken his unbelief.

(i) It would have come out of his heart.

D) (Proverbs 18:21) says, “Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue.

1) We have to have this revelation for ourselves and you’ll begin to change Situations through the Word of God.

V) HEB 11:1-3.

A) We could word (HEB 11:3) this way, “We understand that it was through faith that the worlds were framed by the Word of God.”

1) That’s how God framed the worlds. It was through the spoken Word of God.

a) God spoke the words that brought everything into existence.

b) All things were made by words.

2) JOHN 1:1-3.

a) “Without him”, was not any thing made that was made. Who is the him” that we’re talking about?

(i) It’s actually talking about the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Word of God.

b) Without the Word, nothing was made.

(i) In the beginning, all creation was made by the Word.

(ii) John said that the Word was God in (V 1), and God is all-powerful. If that’s true then the Word is all-powerful to change your situation.

B) When you use the Word of God and confess it by faith to bring a situation under control, you will sometimes face religious people that will say, “You’re just trying to act like God.”

1) We’re not trying to be God. All we’re doing is to act the way God would want us to act in any given situation. (And be followers of Him.) (EPH 5:1).

2) Say what the Word of God says about the situation, regardless of what the circumstances say.

a) That doesn’t mean ignore the circumstances.

b) What I am saying is to do something about the circumstances.

VI) Back in HEB 11:1 let’s just turn there.

A) It says that faith is the “SUBSTANCE” of things hoped for.

1) The word “SUBSTANCEmeansESSENCE, ASSURANCE, CONFIDENCE, CONFIDENT, SUBSTANCE.”

a) Faith is the substance what causes the things you’ve prayed for to manifest. (Godly things).

b) This verse also tells us that “FAITH IS CONFIDENCE.”

(i) Faith is always confident that the Word of God is bringing the answer.

2) I like to read (HEB 11:1) like this, “Faith is the substance of things.” (How did this Church come into existence? It was by the faith of God and with our faith, but look at ROM 12:3).

a) God did not see the world when He created the earth.

3) But God had faith in His Word that what He spoke would happen.

4) He framed the worlds with His Words.

a) You can’t build something without substance.

b) Faith filled Words was the substance that was needed.

5) God never does anything without saying it 1st.

a) Look at GEN 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26.

b) Even in t Gospels Jesus did the same thing.

(i) MAR 5:34.

(ii) LUKE 5:23-25.

(iii) JOHN 5:8.

(iv) Jesus always spoke and said, “Be whole, or rise up and walk.” These were statements of His faith, confessions of His faith. He spoke these things before the person received there healing.

(v) It doesn’t only have to be God the Father or the Lord Jesus Christ to speak out the Word and see the action.

c) ACTS 3:6.

(i) Faith filled words are a powerful spiritual force, which will manifest in this natural realm.

(ii) Begin to change your situation with your faith in His Word that you speak.

7/18/90 WED PM & WOLCC SUN AM 8/23/92

d) You may have heard people say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.”

(i) Nothing could be further from the truth.

(ii) Words can kill you.

e) If you don’t know what you’re doing with words they can destroy you.

f) PRO 11:3.

(i) The word “PERVERSENESS” according to my Wilson’s O.T. word study, here means “smoothness, flattery, he that is turned in his tongue.”

(ii) This verse is telling us that those that have a turned tongue, those that speak contrary to the Word of God, those that speak out the negative, it will destroy them.

B) You may have heard people say, “What you don’t know won’t hurt you.”

1) There are some things that if you don’t know about them it could kill you.

a) Jesus said in (JOSH 8:32) “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

(i) I take that to mean that if you don’t know the truth you will be in bondage even death.

b) (ISA 5:13) says, “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because {they have} no knowledge.”

(i) (HOS 4:6) says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

(ii) If you don’t have knowledge of the Word of God you’re in trouble.

2) Look at PRO 18:21.

a) If you don’t have a knowledge of that you’re going to face the consequences of it.

b) We’re talking about how to get our spoken words in line with the Word of God.

(i) God’s Word conceived in our heart, then formed with the tongue and spoken out of the mouth becomes a spiritual force, which releases the ability of God.

(ii) Where do you conceive God’s Word? In the human spirit or as the KJV puts it “THE HEART.”

C) You can also conceive and speak out other words.

1) If it’s the Devil that you’re quoting, you are releasing the power of the Devil. It’s that simple.

VII) ROM 10:17.

A) Hearing God’s Word causes you to have faith in God and in His Word to come to you.

1) Faith is the spiritual force, which is released out of your mouth when we speak the Word of God.

2) That’s why Paul said in (PHI 4:13) “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

a) Paul understood that the Word conceived inside him and spoken out of his mouth would set the course of his whole life.

B) Turn with me to JOSH 1:8.

1) Do you want to know how to make your way prosperous?

a) 1st of all you have to do things God’s way.

b) The key is right here in (V 8), 1st of all don’t let His words depart from your mouth and do them.

2) God is telling you right here to be a doer of the Word and confess them.

a) The words that you speak are more important to you than anyone else.

b) There’s going to have more affect on you than any one else.

c) The whole direction of your life is changed according to your words.

VIII) Sometimes people wonder why Jesus had so much faith.

A) It wasn’t because He was the Son of God. He set aside all His deity when He became a man.

1) So how did Jesus get so much faith?

2) Again (ROM 10:17) Says, “So then faith {cometh} by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

a) Look at JOHN 12:47-50.

b) Jesus spoke the words of His Father. When He did it caused faith to come inside of Him.

(i) (ROM 10:17) it says, “So then faith {cometh} by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

(ii) Faith that is in God’s Word gets into your spirit when you speak it.

(iii) That’s the spiritual force that we’re talking about.

B) There has been some medical research, which has discovered that the part of your brain, which controls your speech, is connected to every nerve of your body.

1) What you speak about yourself can affect your health.

2) The Word of God is more powerful in your life when you hear it spoken out of your mouth.

a) Words will affect you more when they are spoken out of your mouth.

b) MATT 12:34.

(i) What you speak out is what you believe. It will affect you much more if you already believe it in your heart than if you hear something for the 1st time.

(ii) Sure some faith will come if you here me speak the Word, But even more will come if you speak it out of your mouth.

c) That’s why God told Joshua in (JOSH 1:8), “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth.”

(i) If you went around speaking everything God said, you would be highly developed in the God kind of Faith.

(ii) Put God’s Word in your mouth.

(iii) Once you begin to get this revelation and you start confessing God’s Word for yourself you’ll begin to see God’s hand move in your life and in your situations.
