At the /Beginning of Verse 12/ Paul Says, /"Giving Thanks to the Father.//”/

This is where we have to be.
!!!! a)    /Ephesians 5:20 says/, “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;”
!!!! b)    /1 Thessalonians 5:18 says/, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
!!!!! (1)  Again we are not giving thanks for the bad things that have happened to us.
!!!!! (2)  But we can most definitely give thanks in the midst of everything.
!!! 2.    The /2nd ½ of verse 12 says/, “which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:”
!!!! a)    The /NIV/ translation says, “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”
!!!!! (1)  Eph 1:11 Says, “In whom also we have obtained an inheritance,”
!!!!! (2)  Eph 1:14 Talks about the HS being the earnest of our inheritance.
Verse 18 says, “that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,”
!!!!! (3)  (1 Peter 1:4.) Says, “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.”

(b)   (/2 Tim 4:7-8/) Says, /“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing./”

!! A.  The word “POWER” in this verse is the Greek word “ἐξουσία” which literally means, “POWER OF AUTHORITY or POWER TO ACT.”

There was one time that we were under the control of Satan.
!!!! a)    Jesus said in (/John// 8:44/) “Ye are of /your/ father the devil,”
!!! 2.    At one time we were of that kingdom, but now we are of the kingdom of light.
/Read V 13/
!!!! a)    /(1 Peter 2:9) says/, “But ye /are/ a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
!! B.    Listen to the NIV translation, “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,*[1]*”

In /Gen 1:28/, God said, “/And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing tha/t creepeth upon the earth.
!!!! a)    God created us to have dominion, but thru Adam’s sin, Satan gained dominion.
!!!! b)    But now thru the work of Christ, we have been delivered from the dominion of Satan AND brought into His kingdom.

!!!!! (1)  In verse 21, it says that Jesus is above every principality and power.
Those principalities and powers are under his feet.

Let me ask you this.
Where did the feet go?
Is it part of the head or part of the body?

The King James version says, “and hath translated /us/ into the kingdom of his dear Son:”
!!!! a)    The literal Greek says, “And hath translated us into the Kingdom of the Son of His Love.”

//Colossians 1:14./
!! A. Look at Ephesians 1:7.
!!! 1.
The sister book (Ephesians) has almost the identical same phrase.
!!! 2.    However, there is a difference, not in meaning, but more in translation.
!!!! /a) /Notice that /Ephesians 1:7/ has the phrase, /"Through his blood."/
!!!! /b) /Now go back to /Colossians 1:14/ and notice that your King James Bible says, /"Through his blood."/
!!!!! (1)  If your reading from the NIV, you won't find that phrase "Through his blood."
!!!!! (2)  The translators of the King James Bible just added it.
The phrase through his blood is not found in most of the original transcripts, but it does occur in some manuscripts.
!!!! c)     This is not in the major omission because it is already implied.
(Ephesians 1:7) includes the phrase "through his blood," therefore we know that redemption comes through his blood.
!! B.  Now in verse 14 Paul uses the phrase, "In whom we have redemption."

The word /"REDEMPTION"/ literally means, /" To release by paying the ransom"/ or /"To rescue by ransom."/
!!! 2.    The /"forgiveness of sins"/ is literally, /"release from missing the mark."/

V.  In the /next five or six versus/ we are going to find out several things about the Lord Jesus Christ.
!! A.  Christ is: (1) the image of God, (2) the Firstborn over Creation, (3) Creator of the universe, (4) Head of the church, (5) Firstborn from the dead, (6) the fullness of God, and (7) the Reconciler of all things.

There is no other list in scripture that gives us so many of the characteristics of Christ and his deity.
!! B. Colossians 1:15-20
!!! 1.
The first of these characteristics are found in /verse 15/ which says, /"Who (Christ) is the image of the invisible God."/ (Cf. 2 Corinthians 4:4)
!!!! a)    The /Amplified/ Bible says, /“He is the exact likeness of the unseen God.”/
!!!!! (1)  (Hebrews 1:3) says that Jesus is the express image of the Father.
!!!!! (2)  Jesus said in (John 14:9) if you have seen me you have seen the Father.
!!!! /b) /Anyone who saw Christ, the visible manifestation of the invisible God, has thereby /“seen” God indirectly./
!!!!! (1)  John 1:18 says, "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.”
!!!!! (2)  Even though Jesus is not the Father, Jesus is still the perfect image and representation of the Father.
!!!!! (3)  A mirror being your image, sometimes a child is referred to as being in your image or that they look just like you.
