1 John 1:5–10 ESV
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

The Great Delusion
Mankind is Broken
Thesis:
Men have deluded themselves into believing they have no sin, by following another Gospel, whose word cannot save.
There are 3 areas we will introduce that humans participate in the Great Delusion.
We walk in darkness
We say we have no sin
God’s Word is not in us
Then we’ll quickly mention the true reality

We walk in darkness

1 John 1:6 ESV
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
Many will be disappointed in their sentence, when their deeds stand against the objective truth of God...
Matthew 7:22 ESV
22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’
Our ways demonstrate our love with darkness...
2 Corinthians 6:14–16 ESV
14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
We’ve come to determine wrongly that our prosperity is a measurement of God’s approval...
Revelation 3:17–18 ESV
17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.
We are blind in the darkness and the great delusion continues because we say we have no sin...

We say we have no sin

1 John 1:8 ESV
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Men believe they can purify themselves from wrong doing...
Proverbs 20:9 ESV
9 Who can say, “I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin”?
scripture is clear about our condition with sin...
Ecclesiastes 7:20 ESV
20 Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
most are deluded that a knowledge of God as all that is required...
James 1:22 ESV
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
the Great Delusion has fallen prey to health wealth and prosperity doubling down on our sin continuing there in...
1 Timothy 6:5 ESV
5 and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.
These delusions keep pulling us away from God’s Word...

His Word is not in us

1 John 1:10 ESV
10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Mankinds great delsion spread worst than the pandemic...
as of June 2020 7.8 billion people in the world
11,032,173 covid cases with 525,120 deaths making the virus 4.75% effective
where as one global study shows that there are easily 450-500 million atheist in the world and it is 100% fatally effective in bringing spiritual death and separation form God
2.2 billion Christians of all faiths 28% of the worlds population
1.8 billion Muslims
500 million Budhists
Now because we walk in darkness and are deluded we are alright in our self assesment we increase in ignorance of God’s Word...
Genesis 6:5 ESV
5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
mankind has gotten what is right upside down...
Isaiah 5:20 ESV
20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
our move to naturalism and materialism have removed the Bible and perpetuate the Great Delusion on us all
Ephesians 2:3 ESV
3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
the more we love the lie, the more we are lost in the delusion...
2 Thessalonians 2:10–12 ESV
10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, 12 in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
simply if you are not obeying God’s commands, you are deleding yourself and others...
1 John 2:4 ESV
4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,
naturalism and materialism are 100% fatal to spiritual beings...
Romans 8:6–8 ESV
6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
There is a way for us to come out of our great delusion,
that way is Jesus...

Jesus Christ alone is sinless

He lived our dilemma and overcame our delusion...
Hebrews 4:15 ESV
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
1 Peter 2:22 ESV
22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.

How to Overcome the Delusion

Hear God’s Word - Romans 10:17

Believe God’s Word - Hebrews 11:6

Repent of your Sins - Luke 13:3

Luke 13:3 ESV 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

Confess Jesus as the Son of God - 1 John 4:3

1 John 4:3 ESV 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.

Be Baptized for the Remission of Sin - Acts 22:16

John 1:25 ESV
25 They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
Acts 22:16 ESV 16 And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’

Remain Steadfast for Life - 1 Corinthians 15:58
