Invitation

Engage with me on a spiritual experiment
Hypothesis: “God’s love is more powerful than sin.
“That the love of God as revealed in the cross of Jesus, when seen and believed, naturally turns the heart away from sin.”
Your part is simple,
and yet if all goes well the whole thing will not end up simple at all.
The experiment promises to yield very satisfying results.
All you have to do is pay attention to what happens in your heart and mind as we go through this presentation.
Take note of your thoughts and feelings.
Especially be aware o any activity occuring in your will,
such as a strong sense of desire or determination.
Ready? Let’s begin the experiement.

In a Garden

In a garden called Gethsemane,
a literal garden just outside of Jersualem at the foot of the Mount of Olives
did something happen that would forever change history and the present.
In this garden,
the climax of all divine self-disclosure,
the apex of infinite love,
bursted into visible, tangible reality.
What takes place in this garden, and on a hill,
forver changed the world and indeed , the universe.
Watch.

Matthew 26:36–38 MEV
36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray close by.” 37 He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Wait here, and keep watch with Me.”
Strange, isn’t it?
Jesus is not on the cross yet, and yet He is dying.
There have been no nails yet driven through His beautiful hands and feet.
No crown of thorns pressed upon His delicate head.
He hasn’t been beaten to a pulp yet bu Pilate’s ruthless soldiers.
And yet right here in this garden called Gethsemane,
Jesus tells His disciples that He is on the verge of death.
But wait… it shouldn’t be strange at all,
Did you notice that Jesus pointed to His soul in which was occuring this mysterious death?
Did you also notice that cause of His dying is a sorrow so intense that it’s literally killing Him?
“My soul [not body] is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death.”
Then He said, “Wait here, and watch with Me.”
And that’s exactly what we’re going to do!
We’re going to “wait here” in this scene a little while and understand what is going on.
