We’re going to continue teaching on the blood covenant today. In the past few messages we saw the steps that people had to take when they formed one of those agreements called a blood covenant. We also saw how mankind fell in the Garden of Eden. At that time Satan took control of things and dominated mankind. God in His wisdom set about His plan for bringing another Adam back to the earth.

The second and last Adam would come to the earth through the seed of Abraham after God entered into a covenant with Him. The purpose of this covenant, the Old Covenant, was to give God a legal right to be involved on this planet once again.

Get the last two tapes of the blood covenant to find out why God had to bring about the old covenant before he could bring about the new covenant.

I) When Adam fell he delivered all of his authority and dominion he had on this earth to Satan. Satan then became the one in authority here on this earth.

A) (2nd Corinthians 4:4) refers to Satan as being the god of this world.

1) God brought control back into this earth by bringing in the Lord Jesus Christ.

B) We have also seen how the covenant between God and Abraham was instituted and what took place in that situation back in Genesis 15 and Genesis 17.

II) Most people feel that the covenant that God entered into was a covenant with the Jews, and it was.

A) But according to the Word of God men and women of faith are the TRUE JEWS.

1) Men and women of faith are the true heirs to Abraham’s promise, the promise that God made to Abraham.

B) What was Abraham’s nationality before his name became Abraham? When it was still Abram?

1) He came from Ur of the Chaldees. Ur is a city in the region of the Chaldees.

a) In other words he was a Gentile.

C) Abraham was a Gentile and after entering into a covenant with God he became a Jew.

1) The Word “JEWactually meant “a person that was in covenant with God.”

2) Abraham was a believer in that covenant and circumcision was simply a sign of the covenant, but he was also circumcised because he had faith in the covenant.

D) The covenant that God cut with Abraham was to be to Abraham and his seed.

1) Only those who are of faith are the sons of Abraham.

2) Let me put it this way. Only a believer is a son, or a daughter of Abraham.

a) A Jew who is not a believer is not a son or daughter of Abraham.

3) Turn to Galatians chapter 3.

a) Remember that a covenant entered into by someone means that all their descendants are heirs to the same covenant.

(i) They shared equally in that covenant.

(ii) Abraham was the Covenant Head and all his descendants are heirs of that covenant.

(iii) The Jewish nation, as a whole, are not heirs of that covenant, unless they are believers.

4) Galatians 3:6-7.

a) Not all those who are called Jews are the sons of Abraham.

(i) The true Jew is not a natural nation but it is a belief.

III) Let me ask you this question, what was the name of Abraham’s covenant son? His name is Isaac.

A) And who was the covenant child after Isaac? JACOB.

1) But Jacob’s name was changed to what? It was changed to ISRAEL.

2) The Jewish people are called “The Children of Israel,” because they are the descendants of Jacob.

a) Not all the children of Israel, are the children of Israel.

b) Not all those that came forth from the body of Abraham, are the children of Abraham.

(i) In other words, they are not all heirs to the covenant.

(ii) I’m saying the same thing as (Galatians 3:7) is saying, just in a different way.

(iii) Again (Galatians 3:7) says, “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.”

3) Turn to Romans 9:6.

a) Who was Israel? Israel was Jacob.

b) What Paul is saying is that ‘they are not all children of Israel who came forth from the loins of Israel.’

4) In the next verse he goes on to explain. Romans 9:7a.

a) Just because Abraham was their earthly father, it does not mean that they are all children of the promise, or of the covenant.

b) Let’s go back in read Romans 9:7-8.

c) There’s the explanation. The Jewish nation as a whole, are the bodily descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But they are not the children of promise, you are!

(i) If you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour then you entered into this new and everlasting covenant through the avenue of faith in God.

(ii) You are the true seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

(iii) Your faith in God and in the Lord Jesus Christ and his covenant that he has established has made you the children of promise and you are counted as the seed.

B) Go back to Galatians 3:7-8 for a moment.

1) (In verse 8 where he uses the word “HEATHEN” the literal translation would be “NATIONS.”)

2) But did you notice what Paul said in verse 8, “God preach the Gospel unto Abraham.”

a) When God preach the Gospel to Abraham, Abraham said, “I believe you Lord and I received the future work of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

b) “Abraham believed God and it was accounted to Him for righteousness.” (Galatians 3:6).

IV) Since you’re already there in Galatians 3, look at Galatians 3:15-16a.

A) What he is saying is that the covenant that God made with Abraham is an everlasting covenant and cannot be disannulled.

1) He goes on to say that the covenant God made with Abraham was to Abraham and Abraham’s seed.

a) The word “SEED” is singular. It refers to one-person only.

2) God said, “I made a covenant with you Abraham and with your seed (singular).”

a) Why did God do that?

B) If we went back to the book of Genesis and looked at the moment when Abraham entered into a covenant with God we would find that Abraham was actually entering into a three-way covenant with the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father.

1) The covenant was made and the blessings that Abraham inherited were to Him and to 1 “SEED.”

a) Who is that “SEED?” Galatians 3:16.

2) Let’s go down to Galatians 3:26, 29.

a) If you place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ you are Abraham’s seed and heirs of the covenant.

(i) You are heirs of the blessings of the old covenant. The old covenant blessings belong to you and they cannot be done away with.

3) But the Bible also says that if we have placed our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that we are born-again and we are found in him.

a) Now we are also heirs of this new and better covenant which has been established upon better promises.
