Angels # 2
We started last week on the subject of “Angels.” The godly angels sometimes called “the Elect angels.”
I. Last time we covered “the existence of angels”
A. The Bible is the infallible Word of God.
1. Totally without error.
a. (2 Timothy 3:16) All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
i. The word “Inspiration” according to the Greek means “God breathed.”
b. God breathed His Word into the Apostles so that so that God Word would be recorded.
2. The Word of God is infallible. (Different translations may not be perfect, but God's Word is.)
3. The Word of God says that there are angels.
a. The Bible uses 1 of the names for angels 355 times.
b. The Bible says that there are angels, so there are angels.
B. We also found out from the Word when angels were created.
1. We don't know exactly the date or hour, but we see a few things from the Word.
a. Satan, who at 1 time was an angel must have been created long before man, because he was in the Garden of Eden already in his fallen state.
b. (Genesis 2:1) Says, “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.”
i. In reading that V, angels were created when God created the Heavens & the Earth.
C. We also looked at the purpose for God creating angels.
1. God created angels for the primarily to praise Him.
a. (REV 4:8) It says that these angelic beings were created to worships God continually.
II. Even though angels were created for the main reason to worship God. They also do many other things, I don't want to get into all that now, (We'll get into the ministry of angels later), but 1 other main thing that they do, & that is to obey God's voice.
A. MATT 26:51-54
1. Jesus said that he could ask the father & the father would send 12 legions of angels if needed.
a. He said that the Father will give me or send me the angels
i. Angels obey the voice of God.
b. When DANIEL was thrown into the lion's den, Daniel said, “My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths.” (Daniel 6:22)
ii. Again God sent the angels & the angels obeyed Him.
B. Right now I want to look at the limitations of angels.
1. 1st angels are limited in the realm of space.
a. They cannot be everywhere at once.
b. Only God can do that. Only God is Omnipresent.
a. He's everywhere at once.
b. Many times' people try to run from God, But that doesn't make any sense, He's everywhere at once.
c. Instead of running away from God, run to Him.
ii. JER 23:23-24
a. It's good to know that he is everywhere at once.
b. When there is a problem we can know that He is with us & that He will never leave us or forsake us, but He's with us even to the ends of the Earth.
2. But angels do have limitations.
a. DAN 9:21
i. The angel had to fly swiftly to get to Daniel. He wasn't everywhere at once.
C. Another limitation they have is that of power, God is the only 1 that is all powerful.
1. Angels do have great power, just not all powerful.
a. (2 PET 2:11) Says, “Angels, which are greater in power and might than man.”
b. Look at PSA 103:20.
i. The phrase “Excel in strength” would better be translated “Mighty or very mighty in strength.”
2. But nothing can compare to our God.
a. REV 19:6; REV 21:22
b. He has all power. He is all powerful.
D. Then we come to a 3rd limitation. Angels are limited in knowledge.
1. They probably known some things about God that we don't know, but we apparently know some things that they don't even know.
a. 1PET 1:12
i. When it say “the angels desire to look into,” it means it means “to look carefully into, inspect curiously.”
ii. We receive revelation & have revelation knowledge, angels don't.
iii. And either does Satan.
a. If he would have known what would have happened when Jesus was crucified, he would have never done it.
b. The devil might know the Word, but he doesn't have revelation of it.
b. Angels might know quite a few thing, but they don't know everything.
c. In (Matthew 24:36) Jesus said in referring to His return “But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”
i. Angels have limitations in knowledge.
2. But God is all knowing or omniscient.
i. Look at JOHN 21:17
ii. John also said the same thing in (1 John 3:20) “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.”
E. Angels might be limited in revelation knowledge, but there is 1 privilege that they do have.
1. They have access to the very throne of God.
a. HEB 9:1-5
b. The earthly tabernacle, including the Holy of Holies or the Holiest of All is a type or shadow of the heavenly.
i. Here it talks about two angels at the Mercy seat of God. In His presence.
2. Not only can angels come befors the throne of God, so can we.
a. HEB 4:16
b. We can come boldly before the throne of God any time we want to.
i. We'll end with this (Psalm 16:11) “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence [is] fulness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore.”
