PEACE vs. Pestilence, Plague & Pandemic

Philippians 4:5–7 KJV 1900
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:5–9 KJV 1900
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
phil4.5-8
128 times we find the plague in the bible - Genesis 12.17- Rev 22.18
49 times we find pestilence… - Luke
= 177 TIMES...
But 450 times we find PEACE - GEN — REVELATION...
2 1/2 times more times we find peace than we find pestilence or plague...
I think the Lord know how to deal with our fears...
I think he understands the uncertainties that we face...
Sickness is an unknown...
the younger you are, the less likely you are to worry about health concerns… but as you get older, you are more likely to get sick, not counting the chances rising for other serious illnesses...
cancer
diabetes
Heart disease
COPD
etc...
but health concerns are something that we will all deal with at some point. For some it will be sooner than later, but with that - I want to remind all of us that the Lord can give us peace in our time of trouble...
tonight I am not going to flood you with more statistics or graphs about the COVID-19 virus...
I am not going to put out any rants about what I think is being mishandled -
I am not going to criticize our government officials (though I would be pleased if a certain 80 year old speaker of the house would get saved and retire) not neccesarily in that order… though I do want her to get saved!
We aren’t going to look at the problems that we are facing:
individually
families
businesses
community
state, country
world...
tonight we are going to focus on the SOLUTION...
and the solution isn’t some fancy plan...
The answer is not projection models...
It is not vaccines (though I am not against vaccines - all of them anyway)
The answer is not in medicine, the cdc, the president...
The answer is a person!!!!
The Lord Jesus Christ...
Let's talk about Jesus, the King of kings is He, The Lord of lords, supreme, through out eternity The Great I am the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Door Let's talk about Jesus more and more!
Isaiah 9:6 KJV 1900
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Prince of PEACE...
is9.6
Did you get that - the PRINCE OF PEACE...
tonight, I want to address this thing called Peace...
It is a great mediator… against fear
It is a great comforter… against physical sickness
It is a great stabilizer … against mental attack
We have the option of having peace or being distraught w/o peace...
Anxiety and depression are enemies that will try to come to all of us...
some are more prone to depression and worry - and with being cooped up, it will be harder to stay topside...
Philippians 4:6 KJV 1900
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
be careful: Anxious, troubled, worried;
to brood beforehand… (we have all been here…)
for nothing:
fill in the blank...
the anxiousness is a response of a lack of faith and action of fear....
why is it that we are anxious?
we are not able to control a situation
the situation is unpalatable
uncertainty breeds anxiety...
Philippians 4:7–8 KJV 1900
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
phil4.7-
So what are some steps that will help us have peace and not anxiety?
Rejoice in the Lord
Pray
In Everything -Prayer, supplication, with thanksgiving
Communicate w/ the Lord
Prayer is not a thought - prayer is an action
it is the assembling of our thoughts into words and placing them before the Prince of Peace!
supplication:
prayers for others…a friend of mine is come in his journey and I have nothing to set before him...
get our eyes off of us!
I have been connecting w/ our people, pastor friends, missionaries, evangelists...
other churches
other ministries
Missionaries / those on deputation
I was communicating w/ some on FB this week who are trying to figure out how to meet the needs and raise support for their families and ministries… w/ everything shut down - some are on deputation / furlough w/ no home to return to until they go back to the field...
Prayer
Supplication
Thanksgiving
look at what you have - and thank the Lord for it!
we are the most prosperous nation -
we have the greatest freedoms
food
shelter
clothing
family / friends /
salvation /
Church
Savior -
Heaven / eternal life...
**** we have NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT****
YOU ARE STUCK IN YOUR HOUSE W/ ALL THE PLEASURES WE HAVE AT OUR FINGERTIPS
THINK

Epies- KAse -
referring to your temperament -
What if fitting, right, equitable...
Our moderation - our temperament should be right - equitable - proper for the situation:
not out of control
not fear driven
not anger driven
but what is right… How would the Lord deal with the given situation?
WHY DO WE NEED TO RESPOND PROPERLY????
